clock symbol comes on

Hi

Today my clock symbol went on when i turned the ignition on. it went off again when the rest of the dashboard service lights go out. From the owners manual it says with conjunction with inspection it means that brake fluid needs to be replaced. My inspection light does not come on at all just the clock symbol and normal green service indication bars and then goes out again.

Can anyone shed some light on this please. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

i dont think you should be worried, if it was staying on it would have meant it is time to replace.

Someone alse might shed some light ?

Perhaps a time based oil change is due, as you may not have reached the service interval km wise in the last year?

On the E46 I remember getting that clock symbol and I was quite far away from my service interval. The research I did pointed to brake fluid flush which the service center confirmed.

Sent from my HTC One X

Brake fluid flush has a separate time/indicator to the normal services. There is actually a way to check in your cluster when the next brake fluid flush is due..

The interval is 4 years

Just a btw
4 years is optimistic....2 years max every year is good practice.

Sorry, let me clarify. The BMW interval is 4 years.. I am certainly not recommending that that be the actual interval in practice :)

I assume the car is an E36?
The clock symbol means it's time for an annual service, even though all the green lights have not been extinguished.

If it's an E36, and being 15+ years old, the symbol may not be in sync with the actual needs of the car. Dealerships know nothing, and don't reset them correctly!

So check what service is necessary (if it is) and perform accordingly...

I think the brake fluid change light is not just a straight time elapsed. I think it may detect boiling fluid. Coupe came on the day after a track day. And the M5 a few weeks after its only track day. Co-incidence?
