List of Clubs that have been invited: http://www.classiccarandbikeshow.co.za/main/page_club_list.html
This includes the ST Club and BMW Motorcycle Club plus LOADS others.
So who wants to meet up and then drive through?? I'm trying to see if anyone from the E30Club will also meet up.
We meet at N1 City at 09:00 AM and leave at 09:30 the latest as the show starts at 10:00 as we want good parking. I'll most likely go both days, but I think Sunday might work better for the meet up... that's if anyone is interested.
I know it's short notice, But I just found out about it myself.
If you are a lover of classic cars and bikes, the annual Classic Car and Bike Show from 23-24 January is an event not to be missed. This year the International Police Association will celebrate the 10th year of the event which takes place at Timour Hall Villa in Plumstead. Established as a fundraiser, the event is not only one of the highlights of the IPA calendar, it has become something of an institution here in the Cape amongst nostalgia buffs and fans.
Held annually, it features some of the rarest and most beautiful cars and bikes in the Cape and is one of only a handful of exhibits on this scale. "Over the past 10 years, we have seen a tremendous growth in numbers of both exhibitors and attendees. There have also been some changes to the format, with the first two day exhibition held in 2007 with great success. A further change has been made following overwhelming feedback from members of the public and for the first time since the event began in January 2000, the ticket price has been increased from R10 to R20 per person," said Jo Huysamen on behalf of the organisers.
"As an International Non-Profit organisation, it is important for the IPA to make a difference in our local community and this show has provided an opportunity to not only educate and entertain, but also to effect real changes in people's lives," she added. Over the last decade, event has raised more than R80,000 for various charities, with donations totaling R14,500 handed over in 2009. "It is our sincere hope that the 10 Year Anniversary Show will not only be bigger and better, but that the funds raised will enable us to reach far more people than ever before."
Showcase
On the first day of the show, the exhibition will consist of vehicles which can be defined as ‘Modern Classics". These include Hot Rods, Street Rods, souped up vehicles, racing cars and bikes, custom vehicles and motorcycles and of course, a few new cars and bikes! This is a day that will appeal to many motoring enthusiasts, but it is important to note that there are usually no really old or "conventional" Classic vehicles on display.
On Sunday 24 January, the focus moves to the classics, dating from as far back as the late 1890's, to more recent times. "These are the classics that invoke an era of elegance, a more relaxed way of life and a time when craftsmanship was an important element of vehicle design and manufacture. This is always a popular display and will appeal to anyone with a love of restored and maintained classic vehicles," Huysamen said.
"For the first time in 2010 we have invited the organisers of the annual Auto Jumble Sale to participate in the Car Show and they will be joining us for both days. This is always a treasure trove of parts, tools, magazines and collectibles. It is well worth a visit, Huysamen said.
Visitors are urged to bring the family with them to the event. The will be no lack of refreshments with a number of food stalls to tickle the taste buds and cool drinks to banish the thirst. Added to that is a big screen for any sporting events while the kids will be entertained in the jumping castle. According to Huysamen, there is ample parking on-site, with spill-over parking in the surrounding area.
This is the main IPA Fundraiser for the year, with money raised going not only to its own internal development projects, but in 2009 it supported the project for Tape Aids for the Blind. This year, they have selected the Chaeli Campaign to be their main beneficiary. The event runs each day from 10am until 4pm and in 2010, tickets will be R20 per person, with children under the age of 12 free. More details on the show during Saturday Live after 8am. VOC
