E39 530d Auto. Have been reading up on chipping/tuning diesels. Amazing the amount of torque to be gained by going this route. Apparantly, consumption is also usually better. In my case where i stick to the speed limit like glue, i should get better consumption after chipping. Quotes vary from about R3500 to R5000, some even with dyno tests/results. My biggest issue with gaining all this torque is the auto gearbox on my car. I am not sure if it can handle the extra torque, as it seems these gearboxes were designed to really only handle the max torque of the standard motor, which is about 410nm, although the 530d's from about 2001 is supposed to have a slightly stronger gearbox rated at about 490nm torque. I have taken the numbers off the gearbox plate but they do not seem to match any of the GM gearbox numbers on the internet. The info is: GM Strasbourg, Made in France??? 3GYP
7520853 and 96024854 and P29-0738110 The build date to my car is 10/2002. Anyone able to tell me if i have the 490nm torque gearbox or 410, will really appreciate it.
