Chipped paint

Hi there,

Whilst washing my car over the weekend I found a nasty paint chip. I've just bought Sonax colour wax, which also comes with a colour pen. Wanted to know if anyone in the forum ever used it and what their opinions are of the product.

I have used it before - does not last long - max 2 washes and the chips are back again. Waste of money!

I use the turtle wax colour coded pollish with the lipstick pen,
that lasts about 8-10 washes.
the problem is that bmw cant mix you touch-up paint, cause its waterbased.
try to get a panelbeater, or spraypainter, or paint mix plase to mix a bottle,
that at least matches your cars paint but isn't water based.

What about the paint pens that are sold by the Stealer? Are those any good? I have millions of little paint chips all over my bonnet and bumper that I would like have sorted.

Thanks for your response. A buddy of mine also confirm what you guys are saying. The pen's effect will last for about 2 -3 washes. So will wash and use the pen just before I go and trade in one day :excited:

:nono: - I'm assuming you're joking, because that's not a very nice thing to do.

Thanks to people with this a$$hole mentality I bought a car with quite a few chips in. I could see it had some, but they only revealed they're true colours(white, on a blue car) after the first few washes. I wouldn't have not bought it, but would've argued the price a little bit.

I know, I know, now you're going to say 'But everyone else does it.' but in the end I believe Ghandi(think it was him) was on to something when he said: 'Be the change that you want to see in the world' - who knows, if you take good care of your car, maybe someone on this forum will buy it from you one day - which means you know it'll go to a good home.

In the end, consider a respray if you want to still live with it for a while. Otherwise don't cover it up before a sale, that's just scaley. If someone gives you your price for your car, they deserve to know what they're getting into. Honesty is always it's own reward.

Now...Now..play nice. This is why I don't bother selling my cars privately...Too much hassles with people expecting showroom quality on used cars...hint..hint. I usually trade-in and allow the dealers to pick-up on defaults like chipped paint etc. Look at it anyway you want, it's a business transaction at the end of the day. My advice to you is not to view cars in the low light conditions and rather pay an experienced panel beater to check out your potential buy.

Totally agree with what Ruaan says. being honest is totally the way to go, if I buy a car from someone I want them to be honest with me so if I sell my car the only option should be to tell the truth and not be a scaley ass. At least then it can't come back and bit you in the behind at some later stage:thumb:

Guys, it seems that I have offended the moral fiber of society here and for that I apologize. Again that is why I only buy BMW approved pre-owned cars for this very reason. Fact is that a potential seller that needs to sell their car urgently is not going hand you a magnifying glass. Hoops forgot my manners....thanks for all the feedback.
