Chef's E39 530d

what is the difference between the standard E39 530d and this E39 530d M Sport ?...possibly on the mechanical side ?

I have the 2001 E39 530d "Facelift"...has a slightly less agressive nose to this "sport" nose, but a lot more pleasing on the eye than the older standard E39's I have seen on the road

No mechanical difference. Basically just sportier styling compared to the normal. Someone mentioned to me that the suspension might be a bit sportier too. Not sure. And then... "M" badges on the side steps, steering wheel etc.

Anybody else know of any differences?

Want to replace my standard lights with xenons. Any BMW technobombs out there who can help me out??? Have no clue myself on how to go about doing it.... Dunno how to even get inside there :flyfun:

Congrats. E39 is still one of the best looking BM's made to date.

It's a facelift, yeah. Got a quote from a guy who owns (I think) Violet Electronics, in Hillfox. He's gonna do the H7 Canbus kit for 795.00, the adaptors for 90.00 to hold the globes in place, the Angel halo's for 400.00, and charging 350.00 for fitting. Not too comfortable doing it myself...

I was reading the other thread about chipping/mapping a 530d, and am still unsure about whether it's a good idea or not.

I'd like a software upgrade firstly for better fuel consumption, and secondly for the extra power when it's needed (or wanted).

Mine is a 2003 530d M-Sport with 227 000 km in the clock. Very well looked after and in very good condition. Having the engine and what not checked out this weekend to see if all is in good order (especially the turbo) :fencelook:

Any good advice for a noob?

If its an auto, then rather not waste your time (and money for rebuilding the box). Remove the DPF in the downpipe for better consumption - a map will not make much of a difference in consumption, removing the DPF will.

DPF = diesel particulate filter.

Oh, and make sure you remove the swirl flaps and change the crank case breather (Google them)

I had an auto E39 530d. While the turbo was still strong at 160K KM, the auto box felt like it was starting to give up.

Chef, Its entirely up to you but as P1000 there are certain risks involved in it... MSM confirms and provides an understanding as to why the E90 and E39 differ.
