Nope.

Found another problem though, causing air to enter the system on acceleration...

What is causing that?

Was a broken feed pipe from the filter to the pump. Was leaking diesel on idle, and sucking air on acceleration.

I fixed a small vacuum leak on my 330i a day after I got it, the small ribbed pipe coming off the main inlet pipe to the idle control valve had a crack in it, it made a world of a difference. I may just be imagining it but my car was difficult to drive in heavy traffic when I first got it two weeks ago and after taking my induction system out and cleaning it and cleaning the throttle body and fixing that leak all the jerky hesitations went away, its now much easier and smoother off the line if pulling off very slowly or creeping in traffic. It may have been a sticky dirty throttle body though. This will obviously be a completely different situation on a diesel.

Have you fixed that pipe now? and what difference did it make?

Fixed yes. No difference. Still misfiring, engine light and loss of power under acceleration. And still leaking diesel from somewhere!

:argh:

Couldn't perhaps be a Glow plug could it? Slow start makes me wander if it could be that. Shot in the dark I know but not sure if you checked that.

and last question. and I don't want to step on anyone's Toes here but have you taken the car to BMW themselves and had them have a look, who knows they might pick up the problem straight away.

Glow plugs have no real effect on starting in our climates. I have one or two out on mine. She starts just fine even after sitting outside in -2 overnight.

BMW would probably just replace the engine :fencelook:

This car will never see a BMW garage while under my ownership.

Glow plug won't have an effect on the acceleration either so can't be that.

She's now reassembled for the umpteenth time after yet another diesel leak fix. Will test in the morning. Going home now. Headache in abundance.

Thanks Gert.

Today was just such a hectic day actually.

And I think I can remove and replace that manifold blindfolded with one hand behind my back within half an hour by now.

Hoping for the best bud! I tried to check my lift pump pressure on my little OBD dongle and the apps I have on my phone but couldn't see what it was. The rail pressure is around 340Bar on idle, and goes up past 1500bar easily when driving.
