Have a 6050 Nokia car phone, it's never been on the network here, would it work?
Takes Sim, switches on, but does not find network, in this case Vodacom. Any that I can set? Change?

Was thinking if a locked network could cause that

It cluld be. Its the same if your cellphone is network locked it will only work with thar obe betwork untill its unlocked.. so its worth a try

Need the emei number, says *#06# but then how do I enter it.......

With the keypad while powered on. Surely there is a on screen menu which can give an option for to search for a network.

Nope, not finding network, typical for a locked phone, to unlock need the emei number, that I can get by enter *#06# but can not enter that, if I press call get no network error message

IMEI will also be listed on the device, via a sticker usually close to the SIM. Phone does not need to be connected to any network to show IMEI, the *#06* code is just an on screen representation of the hard coded IMEI.
I network locked phone should still show emergency calls only, if you not seeing that, then you have an issue with the phone finding any network, ie Antennas not connected.

Emergency calls are active, but not managing to input the code to retrieve the emei number

When you turn it on, what is it looking for? A pin code? Make sure the SIM you testing with has no pin code set.

Does it download the SIM cards network settings?
