:thumbdo:

Picked this code up Friday night.

Just after I leave work, all is fine, pass the dreaded bumpy side roads I use to get to the collection point for my son.

Had a quick look at the time on the dash, will be there same time as usual, "fantastic" I thought.........glanced up in the rear view, checked ahead and then something red caught my eye on the dash...........airbag indicator.

I wont repeat the thoughts I had.

But when I stopped, I checked the code, as above, CC-ID 97.

Did some research late Friday night, most issues point to passenger seat mat sensor.

Glanced under the seat on Saturday Am, noted that the wiring and yellow connector box was out of place - box was not clipped into the underside of the seat where its meant to mount.

Sunday the 5th saw me taking the car for a wash, the guys at the car wash moved both seats so far back and I noted that they aren't very "respectful" in the way they do it.

Wednesday last week, I had to move the passenger seat forward again as well - pre warning and wiring points stated above.

Obviously the code can only be cleared and the diagnostics done with a tool.

Thankfully a mate has access to such equipment and will be checking it all up tomorrow night.

Hoping its not too major and it is the case of the wiring that was disturbed.

Will report back once the diagnostics has been done - fingers crossed, my CDO HATES such warning lights and beeps.

Update:

A work colleague and I plugged his Bluetooth dongle into my car and tried with two different apps.

Both apps didn't pick up the faults despite the faults being on the dash.

No bother though, have a mate with a diagnostic tool that is confirmed to be compatible with Bimmers.

Hes coming around tonight with laptop in tow to sort it out.

I still think its the seat sensor in the passenger seat. Hoping it is too.

Growing tired of hearing the dreaded gong every time I start the car and I HATE red lights on the dash. :smashScreen:

Update:

Had my mate have a look last night with his computer of witchcraft.

Picked up the fault on diagnostics.

Don't remember the exact phrase but as suspected, issue under the seat which I corrected but obviously the fault needed to be cleared.

All sorted.

On my way again with no more SRS fault warnings.

Same thing happened to me today on my way to fetch my son from school... Out of nowhere, the dreaded gong and the red airbag and seatbelt light.

Seems a lot of people have issues with seatbelt warnings from the passenger side.

In the first case luckily it was the plug that was loose and the issue could be resolved but mostly it is a bigger problem than that.

What I believe the issue boils down to is people lean in through the passenger side to do something and kneel on the seat which places too much pressure in a single area and damages the fine wires in the seat occupancy sensor.

Mine started with the occupancy sensor going off when I had some shopping on the seat and gradually got more and more sensitive from there - my resolve was to get a seatbelt clip and plug it in then remove when somebody sits on the passenger side.

I watched a lot of videos on how to fix it and not only is it a lot of trouble but you could end up with a crappy looking seat as the whole leather cover needs to come off to replace the sensor mat. You also need specific tools to put the leather retaining rings back in place, or take it to a specialist.

I can't believe I lived with this error for about 6 months:eek:
I had someone scan the car this weekend and cleared error codes, when I started the car again the error/warning was gone.
