CAT disposal

I sold my 2004 E46 318ti early last year. 1 year before I sold it, I fitted a Power Flow exhaust and de-CAT the system. I still have the stainless resonator, muffler and CAT. I removed the components at around 90k. All of which were very well preserved in my garage.

What do I do with the components? Do I dump them at a scrapyard or is there perhaps a 2nd hand market somewhere? I believe there is some value in the CAT (platinum traces) considering is has only done 90k and a new CAT is ridiculously expensive.

If the best thing to do is to take it to a scrapyard, where will I get the most for the CAT?

Thanks in advance for your comments

I dont think people will buy them in SA. Theres a market overseas where they are required. But who wants CATs in their cars :fencelook:

phone exhaust shops in your area and see if there is anyone coming around to collect these...

I have investigated this in my area and even contacted a local metal refinery who deals with precious metal...

the refinery said they find it hard to get enough plat out the cats to make it worth while... it seems many manufactures are not putting much plat in the cats for SA spec cars because we dont have emissions testing here...

Scrap Yard or Sell IT to an exhaust shop, thee are people that would like to have there damaged one (Not blocked ones) replaced instead of fit an after market system.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the responses.

@Chavoos: Sorry man, I just got rid of it this morning. It was ridiculous, I got more for the muffler and resonator than I got for the CAT. The silencers are stainless and the CAT casing is ferrous.....Can you believe that?? The magnet almost ripped of the poor guys hand when it came close to the CAT.

Never the less, I am taking of both my CATS of my 2009 E90 323i in the next few weeks. I will give you a shout! Maybe you can get rich of the platinum extraction...

Do you know of a good place to deCAT? Both my cats are part of the manifold...like 20cm from the exhaust port...difficult area to work in.

Regards
