Car trouble

So today, my 333 was brought to Durbs, initially for a tune up. Car was detonating, but was thought to be something minor. However, having being worked on the entire day @ Bimmerworx, still could not pinpoint the problem :argh:
When the car is revved up quick, it revs like a dream, however when it is done much slower, it backfires/detonates continuously only until throttle is relieved. Still a few things to try out tomorrow as car is still in Dbn.

Poor fuel perhaps?

Fuel pressure seems ok if motor revs up quickly . Does your motor have a timing pick up near the flywheel - these can give problems on the M20 motors ?
AFM -Not sure - If you plug it out the car may not start and run , the later motors with MAF can run if the maf is dead .

No vacuum leaks ?

Doesn't the 333 have an M30?

Was the engine opened up with the restore?
Camtiming?

Nic - What Ray meant was that the M30 probhably has the same pickup sensors in the bellhousing like the early M20s
