Car Theft Con - Please watch

I think this is the same episode I watched the other day. They went after the dealers... but the woman whose GLA was stolen said she had posted her complaints on facebook. So she was pretty public about it. Guy reads complains on facebook, quick dig through her profile finds out where she works, what her number is knows the back ground from her posts.

Now that brings me onto something else. Be careful of what you post anywhere, be mindful of the fact that anyone can see what you post on facebook and forums. If you do a deep dig through peoples posts you can learn quite a lot about them...

+1 most of these people either used facebook or hellopeter. It makes me wonder as well the people who call you for follow up after you buy a bmw, always say "we are conducting a survey on behalf of bmw on you newly purchased bmw" These third party companies could also be involved.

Same goes for service follow up calls

Bottom line give your keys to NO ONE, ensure that you clearly advise your service person that only YOU are to fetch the car and no one else.

Facebook has become an outlet for customer complaints since the manufacturers or dealers are very quick to remedy something that could tarnish their online reputations. This is not a bad thing as long as checks and balances are in place. For instance, take the time and set up your privacy options on Facebook. This way no one will be able to see anything about you. One also needs to be mindful of the amount of information you post on social media when you complain. Rather than writing your whole story, write a short summary (without too many details) and send the rest using a message. This way the key information stays private.

As for the representatives from both LRJ and Mercedes, well...their attitude towards the situation was less than stellar.

Getting information from the dealerships themselves is also way too easy. I have many times phoned with a VIN number and shorty after received the whole history of the car, some times even showing owner information. While I had no intentions other than checking out the history, others could very well use this in a criminal way.

Last tip would be know your dealership and know the chain of command. Rather than complain on Facebook straight away first communicate with the sales or service managers. If that fails raise the issue to the DP. If you still feel that you are getting nowhere then you should consider social media.

Wow pretty scary stuff...

But seriously, who would just hand over the key to anybody without checking with dealers... I wouldn't.

Know your dealers, the person you deal with and etc. Better safe than sorry:cartel:

These guys are confidence tricksters. The confidence part is crucial, they exude confidence. I bet these guys are so good people are happier handing over their keys to them than the grotty disinterested guy the dealership would actually send.

These guys are very slick in what they do, but is it only me that insists on going into the dealership personally?

Like to talk face to face to a person wrt a problem about my vehicle..... these people open themselves up to such problems and like Clownshoe said, don't go and blab all your problems over social media...

Thanks for the video share, couldn't watch this on Sunday and was wondering what was said on it!! :ty:

This guy used the too good to be true line. We will pick up your car, fix it add a bunch of free stuff and put a full tank of petrol in. Not many people will turn that down.
