I have a 2005 e90 320i. There car is showing an engine light and wont start. When i push start the electronics shut off and then comes back on again. Does not start. There is no sound or anything. No crank or click or anything.

That was my first guess. I replaced the battery but still no luck. I will check that the battery terminals are connected correctly though.

Ouch ok, I'm in Benoni.

If there's no one that can help closer to you, you might have to get the car on a flatbed to me. This does sound like the ecu has given up the ghost but I'll have to see the car first to confirm.

Any signs of water damage if you open the ecu box?

Edit: come to think of it now, I had a similar issue a few weeks back and it ended up a faulty starter. Exact same symptoms.

Problem is that this starter replacement isn't a DIY because of where it sits in the engine. Reading the fault codes will confirm this before the expense.

Ok so I fiddled with the battery to make sure the terminals were not loose. So now it doesn't switch off anymore. I tried to start it but it just cranks no kick.

On the display it's showing half engine light with code cc-id 29 also showing a red oil can.
