Idunno, my own perception is they
have gone as a company from making good cars to just making good money as their main priority.

That goes without saying... :) but I was surprised to see that this year there are no BMW's in the line up, maybe BMW lost focus...?

Personally I think BMW sales are to blame as well, despite poor service delivery the BMW sale figures are still too good to be true and maybe BMW has relaxed too much to care anyway.

I think the COTY awards are a waste of time - if they can create categories for each class, then it would be worthwhile. Otherwise it's a gloried driving test with pointless results.

Also, they don't take any view on medium term ownership into account. Just ask yourself - after 1 month of having a car what is your opinion and then ask someone who's had it for 1 year ...

Couldnt agree more, and also lacking, wow factor.......badly.

All they could announce at the Geneva Motor Show, was another 2 special edition 1Ser coupes, and an M-Performance sub-brand, talk about show stopping news:thumbdo: I dont know why they even bothered! :roflol:

Watch the Koreans...they are making CARS :praise:

BMW need to get their a**e kicked!

Even though BMW are lacking abit, the Koreans and Japanese cannot be compared to their German counterparts!

My Opinion!!!

They shud create competition for different catogories, I think BMW will claim 1 or 2 places atleast!!! They will definately win the sports class with their ///M's for sure!!!

I did..! I couriered a letter to BMW Germany, not even a "thank you we received the letter", nothing....

In my opinion the only way is mass boycott OR mass action, sadly only 77 likes on the BMW Poor Service page and no real feedback from supporters, not nearly enough to make any impression.

Mass boycott does not do it for me because I like the product, almost a case of cut your nose to spite your face.

Just one of those things I think.

The 1M for me is the car of the year. No car has received so much praise from every single motoring journalist than the 1M. But maybe the powers that be drive M3's like Kabal and under no circumstances would they ever hand the award to a 1 series, even if their lives depended on it!

I dont think the forum needs another b*tch fight, so if you want to know pm me. If you give, you have to learn to take.

I think this poor service story is just an indication of under-supervised mechanics in the dealer workshop. They cut corners, do the inspections but do not read the results past the second line, and rush the job through as there are another 20 something cars to be attended to.

There is a section in this forum about dealer horror stories, so that is best dealt with there

As for motoring journalists, I have yet to meet (apart from horse-racing journalists) a bunch of more self-serving greedy buggers who will sell their mother for a financial consideration. Their opinions are worth zero.

I know exactly what you are talking about, but apparently you dont know how to interpret posts.

one guys posts that boxter is crap, you should only buy 911, so I was asking if by that rational you can replace it with 1 series and 3 series, which is the same thing.
stop being so precious

on a serious note, most of the time, car of the year is for cars you can actually buy. seeing as the general public cant actually buy a 1M, cause they bought in like 3 of them, that is why it is not considered as COTY contender. pretty simple really

Well I think car of the year should include the company that made it and the service they offer as part of the overall decision.

And maybe that's why there wasn't one, maybe BMW can still win some financial profit making awards instead.

@Kabal - no need to explain, I know what you meant.

As for car of the year, the 1M still gets my vote. Brilliant piece of engineering that deserves recognition and reward.

If it comes down to service, I don't think SA will be able to have a COTY competition at all as dealerships of all makes in SA are bad.
