Car not starting

Hi Guys,

My car is a 2008 z4 M roadster. For the past few months iv had the problem where after the car warms up it wouldnt start. All lights, radio etc works but when you turn the key it just clicks. The motor doesnt turn. I have checked the battery and had it tested and that is not the issue. Something was obviously getting heat sensitive and not allowing the car to start.
The last 2 times when I drove the car the same problem started occurring in the morning when the car is still cold. The car is now sitting at a mechanic who has taken out and cleaned the starter but says the problem persists.
Somebody suggested that this is a problem with the starter solenoid. \
Has anyone experienced this problem before?
Im not quite sure now if I should risk buying just the solenoid or if I should replace the whole starter. The price difference between the two is huge.

Any input would be of help, thanks.

Hey Mario,

I forget, what starter do you have? The Bosch or the Valeo based one?

If it's Bosch, maybe just try the solenoid. If it's the Valeo... I would probably suggest trying to get a Bosch unit from the get go...

P

Hi P

I didnt think to ask the mechanic on the brand but he did mention that its made in France?
Also, Goldwagen and Midas dont seem to stock starters for these cars.
At BMW the starter is 10k and the solenoid is 1600 so i think ill try my luck with the solenoid first.

Hey Mario,

Valeo is French... :)

I see some brand new Valeo's on eBay, including shipping for around R4k. You may want to double check that before you decide...

Good luck man!
