Car making screeching noise

Hi, I have an e90 330i. Over the weekend me and my 'formerly' trusted mechanic were changing the tappet cover gasket as it was leaking oil. Once we had put everything back on, the car started but with an abnormally high rev count and a screeching noise. We called a a mechanic friend who said the issue was the valvetronic that could have inhaled excessive air. He suggested we remove the valvetronic and put it back in but this time put silicon and leave it for a couple of hours. We tried this and the noise is still there. Is there anybody out there who has had a similar issue and how was it resolved?

Hi there.

If Lizzards recommendation don't work out.

Another possible problem could be the vent system.
Is there high vacuum when you open the oil cap while the engine is running?

The valve cover has a pipe to the oil separator (breather system) that can make a whining noise if broken.
