hey guys!

This weekend my car suddenly started acting weird.... My idling has gone for a ball of crap! it keeps on going up and down and feels like its on the verge on stalling, the lights also dims when this happens. AND!! i have lost power............. car takes really long to acclerrate through the gears, then sometimes it will suddenly just acclerate like normal..... Any help!!!!! before i send it in...

When the car is in nutraul and i hold the revs at like 1500 or 2500 RPM i can hear the car sounds like it is missin(Back firing)....

Thanks!

These are the symptoms of a vacuum leak, check all rubber hoses including the bellows for cracks/leaks.

mine was R900.00 +- from BMW , Bemos would be cheaper though but get your car on a diagnostic , and make sure before you replace anything.

Mass Air Flow sensor , its located at the air box

I have noticed a water leak in the past couple days, could it be that?

Agreed except for the lights dimming.. could also be something earthing in the engine bay

Have you got aftermarket lights?

I would check vacuum leak 1st, also could be plugs due to the messy iddling

Nope i got standard lights..... lights only dim when the car feels like its just bout to stall:banghead:

Will have to do a diagnostic check at bmw or sav

Where is the water leak?

I had similar symptoms due to 3 faulty coil packs. But any of the above problems could cause that. I doubt its the idle bypass. That has no effect out of idle.

Get the codes read, that will tell you quickly what is wrong.

after reading this thread somebody mentioned idle control valve.my car was running shite aswell.i removed my airbox, maf unit and sprayed carb cleaner into the airtake along with the pipe leading to the idle control valve.car battled to start and was missing after this.after revving it a bit and driving the crap out of her she is now performing much better.

and yes coil pack prices vary.last price i got for e46 320 was almost R1000 a coil
