Car Insurance for Track days

Hi All,

With the pending track day at Killarney I thought I would raise the topic of insurance....

In the UK, at all track days I go to, I pay a 3rd party company to be fully comped as my insurance will not cover track days.

Anyone know what the deal is with SA insurance companies? My Mate who is coming on Saturday is with Santam and they reckon its ok but excess will be R10k

I am with outsurance.... anyone know the deal with them?

I may cancel and move to Santam, just to be safe.

any advice would be appreciated.

if you crash then tow the car off the track and onto a public road, pref one with skidmarks on etc.. problem solved

Similar to that topic is the one of Motorplan...

BMW says that the motorplan contract will be cancelled if the car is found to participate at a racing event. Track days are apparently considered racing events. Does this mean your motorplan could be cancelled if your car is at at track day? BMW could easily send a rep to the track days and take down the details of the cars there... right?

I know for a fact Audi did that to a couple of members..

Hence why guys cover their number plates, and sticky closed their vins when they enter the track.

Andrew, that one also doesnt work dude, 20 people saw you bend it, all you need is one guy to phone the insurance cause you insulted his goldfish 5 years back, and your going to jail for fraud.

easiest answer, buy an E34

...poor goldfish... Yeah out of MP cars is the way to go for trackdays :thumbsup: Might be more fun since you don't feel so much for the car as you would your daily driver.

Yup Thats why you can tell which guys still have motorplan.... They dont have number plates

Well I officialy swapped my car insurance to Santam today.... R10k excess is a small price to pay if things go pearshaped on the track... I have an official letter from Santam saying that he trackday is ok.

Oh and interestingly technically track days are not racing, as per the letter of the law here and in the UK, but I challange you to try argue that with your inurance company.

For the last 10 years in the UK, policies state that the vehicle is not to be used for "track days" or "driver instruction on or off track" due to the number of people that challenged succesfully that a proper orginised track day is not "competition racing".

I got old car, out of motorplan and got the owners permission to do skidpan days

AFAIK motorplan is NOT affect by trackdays, only things like drag racing. There are bmw trackdays in joberg all the time

People are putting brand new M3's and X5 M's on killareny track days. I suppose if you can afford a X5 M you can afford to run it without motorplan????

I must phone my broker tomorrow to enquire about insurance, just in case

After all my enquiries today, it really appears that Santam are the only ones that will openly cover you....

Then my next question is.... why build a track car like a CSL and cover it on motorplan? Kinda defeats the purpose. It like a hooker with a chastity belt :hammerhead:
