I don't see any harm in a spotted thread but I guess the time has now passed for these kinds of things to be big. This has died down over time as facebook and tagging everyone+their dog became popular and now even that is no longer a thing. Facebook has basically become my birthday reminder system and occasionally Instagram stories will accidentally be crossposted/turned on

. Instagram peeps either don't tag you or get you to approve before posting. More people are aware of the dangers associated with it and it really isn't for everyone (especially if you have a high risk or rare vehicle). Friends just whatsapp a pic of the car if it's spotted usually and the owner ends up posting it and tagging whoever spotted it if they want to. When I have my 'visiting' cars I remove or blur out the owner's plates.
Then again, I could be totally wrong and this could be wildly popular on platforms that I don't use eg: TikTok, X etc LOL
Events are a different story since you're kind of expecting to be part of the content.
