Hey Guys,

I have a beautiful Estoril Blue BMW 118i M-Sport (F20) which I bought Nov 2012, brand new.

I would like to exchange it for a bakkie for a business venture. I owe the bank much less than what the value (book or Market) is, since i had a pretty hefty deposit and extra payments on it.

The car is around 56000km and is in good condition.

I have contemplated selling it privately, but I'm not really keen on the hassle and risk associated with that.

So i wanted to know if:
1) Can i return it to BMW (I use BMW finance)
2) Can I sell it to a dealer - Please recommend
3) Would i be able to trade it in and buy a used bakkie - Can you even trade a car worth more than a car you buying and have the dealer refund some cash back to you?
4) What other options am i missing/should i consider for this?

Thanks

1. I'm not sure what you're asking. You can't just go drop it off and have your dept cleared.

2. Yes I'm sure a dealership may buy it.

3. Yes you can it depends on what dealership your talking about here. A small car dealership may not be able to afford it. Or they may best speak to the one which have a bakkie you want.

4. What is much less than book? Trade is also much less than book. A dealership will not give you market value. Other dealerships (ie not bmw) tend to give lower trade value. Best you call around and see what the varies bmw dealerships will give you on the car. Then call around and see whatever the dealership of the bakkie you want will give you on the car. Although you will probably need to settle the finance with bmw then refinance the bakkie, or pay cash (no idea of your financial situation and what bakkie you want). But I have no experience with financing a car, as I prefer to own my vehicle but that is neither here nor there.

Good luck with it. I would suggest at least attempting to sell it privately. For a month if you can wait. Or find out what trade is an put it on fanatics for a week for 20k more than trade or something.

Thanks Dieselfan,

Looking at getting a small bakkie (Chevy Utility). Will give private selling a bash. See how that goes, I'm a lil apprehensive about that route though :(

As long as the money is in your bank account, and you have personally done the transfer of ownership at the licensing department before you let the car go, there is nothing to be apprehensive about.

Just NEVER let anyone drive off with the car until you have made sure that you have done the transfer of ownership.

Some dealerships allow you to sell a car privately through them. All you need is to bring the car and the buyer to them. They arrange the finance and the reg to new owner and then pay back the difference to you. I sold a RX8 that way in 2010. The deal was done with fury rivonia. They did charge R4k to do it though. At least then you get maximum value for your car and everything is above board.

Thanks peanut, will take that into consideration.

I'll advertise on the forum and see what happens.

Sorry for asking what seems like the obvious, but why not just trade the 118 in for the utility? :dunno:

Opel definitely allows other brands to trade in for what is required from them.

Hi,

Please could you send me a PM regarding specs etc. on the vehicle. If all checks out might purchase from you.
Please include your selling price as well.
