Can BMW alloy wheels be sandblasted?

I know everybody is going to tell me to take it to a proper place that refurbish wheels, but I'm 150km from the nearest place that does such work, and I don't want to spend a lot of money on them, as there's nothing major wrong with it, just a colour change I want.

Bought myself a set of 193's, quite good condition (they has been refurbished about a year ago).

But they are anthracite and I want them the original silwer colour.
There are no buckles, very few curb rash.

In our small town is a guy who does sandblasting, and a panelbeater, that's that, now my question is, can they be sandblasted? I read different things on Google, some say NO!!!!, and some say yes.

And what are the 'prosedures' if it can be sandblasted to get it painted silwer (alloy colour).

Thanks. :ty:

I sandblasted mine with a hard grit, then bead blasted and had them powder coated matt black. Cosy me R2000. Had no problems.

I wonder if, after being sandblasted, can it just be sprayed by a panelbeater

Don't see why not. Why don't you ask the guy in your area?

The original coating on the rims is thick and we picked up 4-5 coats of powder-coating layers, obviously the primers and so forth. To remove the full coatings we need to use a grit blaster, after that we needed to glass bead to get a smooth finish before powder coating again. Be aware of the guy who does the blasting, that he doesn't destroy the rims..lol. Those machines in the wrong hands..... disaster.

If you going to spray them, then they would most probably use a spray filler and then sand and colour and then apply a good quality top-coat.

Completely right!

You must be very careful if you take sand for aluminium, the sand is too hard and is destroying the complete surface...
