Hi Guys,
Yesterday I made the decision to trade in the 6-er. I have secured a spotless Mercedes Benz CLS500 (with the new 5.5l engine) that has only 78000km on the clock. Blue/Gray kinda color with all the bells and whistles the 6-er has, and then some extras (Distronic active cruise control, Airmatic, DVD player, bluetooth etc) Picking her up tomorrow or Tuesday.
When I did the test drive yesterday I realised again why I have always preferred large sedans over sports cars. I drove the same route to the dealership as I had with my 6-er and the Merc was a model of stability. No shakes or rattles, and the airmatic just absorbed everything the road threw at it. After the test drive I then drove the 6-er on the same route as I had the Merc to compare fuel economy. I was shocked to say the least. The big Merc 5.5l V8 ran at 13l/100km while the 4.4l V8 in the 6-er ran at a unbelievable 21l/100km. The Merc idles so quietly that one can easily forget that the engine is even running at all...and boy does it have torque on tap (Merc 285kw/530nm vs BMW 245kw/450nm). The 7 forward gears are also quite welcome!
The 6-er has been a fun drive, but I prefer the comfort that comes with a large sedan.
I'll still be participating in this forum though, albeit as a deserter and will always be willing to help a fellow fanatic out with software related bits
