Calling all E82 120d owners with downpipes

Hi Guys,

After doing your downpipe and software, did your cars have a loud whistle on idle?
A mate of mine did a DP ans SW on a F20 120d and he has a very loud and high pitched whistle. My car is getting a DP fitted Friday, but I'm not keen on such a harsh idle.

This normally only happens when all boxes are removed. Most TDIs have that weird whistle with straight pipes. If you only do a dp you should barely notice any difference on idle, only when you give it the beans.

Did you manage to figure this one out?
I am looking at changing the downpipe on my coupe as well but I dont want the car to sound like the VAG's

Changing the dp doesn’t create a whistle, the whistle was always there just masked by Oem exhaust. If the whistle is loud, it’s normally a sign your turbo might need some work.

Howzit, yeah I had the DP done. On idle the change is barely noticeable. Cruising around in town it also sound fairly stock, but when you get on the power it has a nice aggressive tone to it.

I will try taking a video of it for you.

You still driving the 135i according to your signature? because this would not apply to you. The 135s don't suffer with any whistling issues when down pipes are installed.
