I love the E46 but I really like the C55 , its unique , did you notice that the front end of a C55 is a little longer to accommodate the bigger engine? It such a cool car.

I would go with the C55 .

Due to the size of the V8, the CLK front had to be used to fit it in

In my opinion, if you looking for a daily, the 330i is the obvious choice. But as a 2nd car, the C55 is a no brainer:chef:

I currently own both, and can honestly say that the C55 uses about 2x as much fuel as the 330i when driven in the same manner.

Out of interest, what type of town/highway consumption figures are you getting across these cars.

The current average on the cars:
330i - 9L/100
C55 - 17L/100

Pure highway with no flooring to overtake, and sticking to the speedlimit:
330i - 7L/100
C55 - 10L/100

The BMW group thanks you for your responses. For all those who have recommended a Mercedes on a BMW forum, please note that a self destruct command has been remotely sent to your BMW ECU.... :ka-boom:

Anyway, on a serious note, the C55 is appealing to me more and more as well. Unfortunately, the initial C55 that I was contemplating has some issues, so that specific car is not an option for me. However, I'm going to look at a few others soon. May need to wait a couple of months until I'm ready to purchase, as the asking price for clean cars is a bit higher than my budget right now and since this is a 2nd car, I can wait a bit. Also, unlike the 330i's (no disrespect to anyone), the C55 seems like much better value relative to the asking prices.

Good choice when you eventually get it

C55 all day everyday, Temptation will surely get the better of me to use it every chance I have but certain the cost of fuel will stop me :roflol:

I daily drove one for 3 years/110000km.

Parts prices are reasonable (Imcomex and the agents even).

The only thing that got to me was the gearbox felt a little slow if you were in a hurry but other than that it was a great car.

Every second service was about R6k and fuel consumption average was 11l/per 100km.

Great car.

I enjoyed driving wes's car. decat'd and the sound was amazeballs. even with a 300 000km +, mileage reading car was still running like it came out the factory. so that being said C55 is one solid built car. gearbox was slow in changes but thats about the only mechanical problem.

as for someone saying they look dated. Some do but that because they not looked after. headlights fade etc etc if they are looked after they still look the part.

Wes and i had a run with my 330d. up to 3rd the 330d was in front but thats because of traction control not allowing it to move under power. once that 55 started moving it was game over for me.

The C55 is a relatively care free ownership experience, because they simply dont have common issues if they are properly maintained.

So as long as you are willing to throw fuel, brakes, tyres at it, its a wonderful experience.

Not nearly as sharp or dynamic as the BM though. The ride is a little crashy and similar in hardness compared to an M-sport e46, but without the balance.

A little scientific testing against a very healthy M3:rollsmile:

Its quite hard on the consumables

Hi Fordkoppie, You sir have some of thee best cars around... any garage threads of all your cars?

Apologies for the off topic post...

C55 is a great car, All the best with finding THE ONE!
