Buying second hand BMW from durban

Hi Guys

I am looking at buying a 2012 118i from a dealer in JHB. However when I went to view the car I noticed that it has a NJ number plate so obviously the car is from Durban.

Should I consider this as we have all heard that cars from the coast tend to have rust problems. Is this something that is a reality or just a myth?

Guys from Durban? Have any of you had rust issues on a similar year model?

Any advice would be great!

It's a 2012 model the car won't have rust... I am from Cape Town and my 2007 e90 doesn't have any rust.

Thanks Dieselfan!

I did a quick check and couldn't see anything, but was more worried that I might end up having some issues later on as the humidity could have taken its toll.

Hey i have bought a few cars from durban, the newer cars dont suffer that much from rust unless the car had a small ding were the paint has been removed and it ends up getting rust in that spot if not sorted out in time or correctly.:RedNo:

I am from Durban and live 2kms away from the sea. My dad has his Toyota Runx for 9 years and it has been parking outside under an awning for the last 4 years. It doesn't have a single spec of rust. We also have a 2013 F30 BMW which is rust free.

I don't think it will be possible for a 2012 model BMW to have rust. Aren't BMW bodies galvanised as well?

Thanks for all the comments guys!

Ended up finding a local one with lower mileage.

First 1 series I'll buy as I have only had a 320d before.
