Buying an E90

2007 Civic 1.8 iVTEC sedan
ok my mother inlaw has this honda and i have driven it and it feels fast but the big difference i found is that the 320i will be faster but you won't feel the speed as in the honda, if you drive a golf at 120km/h and drive a beemer at 120km/h you'll realise what i mean.

From what i gather they reach 0-100 in about the same time.
Let me tell you that you will be happy with the "upgrade" from a feel point of view and the greater top end, but don't make the mistake of jumping into a 320i cause its a beemer theres alot of choice like the 323i,325i and up(if you want speed
Civic 1.8 iVTEC
from this i assume you like speed) so dude go to bmw and test drive a many cars as you like then make your choice.Congrats on the oppertunity to upgrade.

Well I am the sort of person where speed is great but comfort is more important and piece of mind when it comes to services and maintenance. Basically if it delivers speed when i ask for it then i am happy. It was the thing i found with the honda, power on demand.

Why would the engine last longer in the 323i vs 320i ?

I think you'll find the comfort levels are much better in the BMW vs the Honda. I mean it's a luxury sports sedan. My advice to you would be to get rid of the run-flats which is what I will be doing soon. Run-flats are terrible, if the road is a little rough you'll feel it. What I need to know is if BMW have a kit available for a spare tire they can install in the boot because at present it doesn't look like there is space for one.

Hagshen i thought as much power is a thing, Olorin has taking the words right out own my mouth "luxury sports sedan".From my experince Bmw feels 50 times more luxurious.
You have piece of mind because of your motor plan(basically no costs to due from service and such as long as you dont cause the problems and they find out)The only real cost i see is tyres which would be more then a honda but your are buying a Bmw so expect it

Engine size doesn't determine how long it is going to last.

I think i said this Four times nw:mmm: test drive and you determine if the power is right for you:mmm:

Either then the power which im ok with the 320i would be a great choice.

I test drove a Lexus IS250 before making my decision on getting the 320i. The Lexus was more refined, and much quieter inside the cabin but handling wasn't nearly as precise. The gearbox was absolutely terrible and that alone was a deal breaker.

Now it was quicker (160 kw V6 engine) but the sheer weight of the car reduces the gap a lot, so in reality it doesn't feel much quicker at all. But I still remember how quiet it was in the cabin. Bumps are absorbed, you hardly feel a thing so the Lexus is more of a luxury car in the truest sense of the word.

I think what really disappointed me was the steering feel. Extremely light, very little feedback. Some people prefer light steering, I prefer steering which gives more feedback so that I am in control of the car and not the other way around.

Just my 0.2c.

Nice. I like the alpine white E90. I've got one so I'm a tad bit biased. :) Oh, get the windows tinted to 35% if you can, it will make it look extra cool while keeping the cabin cooler during the summer. I'm actually thinking of tinting my rear window and side's to 15% tint and leaving my front at 35%. Not sure if that is legal or not. I think 15% all round is definitely illegal.

Both
Cylinders - 6
Valves - 24
Capacity - 2,497cc

323 Peformance
Power - 140 KW/190bhp / 5,900 rpm
Torque - 230 Nm / 3,500rpm

325 Peformance
Power - 160 KW/218bhp / 6,500 rpm
Torque - 250 Nm / 2,750rpm

the 323i just has less power

Clearly you guys enjoy working today as much as I do! :dropjaw:

So out of curiosity, are you going to keep the run flats or switch over to normal tyres? I've been researching it all day, I rate my run flats will probably need replacing by about April next year, so thinking the best option is non-RFT's and a BMW mobility kit. I'm super curious to know how my car would feel on normal tyres.

Work is the best:mmm:

Ok now seriously i have read alot on changing and there are alot of yes and no people.
Some say when you change them you get a much better ride, they cheaper and cuts down on noise
On the other hand people say why would Bmw still put run flats on all new cars

Pros
Better ride comfort, cheaper and some say better handling,

Cons
In the new cars there is no standard place for a spare wheel, you hav to get a jack and the tools so i doubt you save weight
Those flipping tyres are expensive:dropjaw:

People ask why do Bmw do it if the tyres are so bad(we know the make good cars and we know they know what the doing)
Punctures arent a problem so if you wife/gf are driving at night there is no need to worry if she gets a punture(my personal opinion)

I am thinking i will leave the run flats on. Like JustNN said the must be some method in the bmw madness to put them on all cars.

Any suggestions on tracker unit guys?

what does it generally cost to do tinting?

Guys, what does the BMW mobility kit cost ? I don't see any place for a spare tire/wheel in the boot. So how does one fit in a spare in a E90 ? Also, for some weird reason, as soon as I put in petrol, even R100 worth, I feel like 30-40% of my power goes down the drain. Throttle response goes to hell. Is there a specific type of petrol I am supposed to be using for my 320i ? I went to Caltex and just asked for regular unleaded.

Sorry to hijack your thread Hagshen. To answer your question about the tinting, I think it's around R1500 to tint. It was included in my deal.
