Buying a X5 --> Guidance needed

Have heard that the Facelift E53 has a 6 Speed ZF Autobox so that should be a safer bet than the GM fitted to the Prefacelift :fencelook:

Other than that I think they're stunning vehicles and I'd love to own one!

Basically, what they said.
E70 definitely the more superior.
Wish I was you.
We have a few goals that we've set financially and need to meet them first before taking the plunge with the X5.

Have promised myself the day I pick it up.....it's going to be followed with a road trip for a few days.......
I'm so excited about the whole thing I feel like a 12 year old at Christmas

Kudos for goal setting Fraser. I admire that. Im still holding out to hear from Vader... Hopefully he can structure some affordable deal for me otherwise Im also going to have to set those goal posts a bit further than I thought....

I am also looking at the X5 E70 but it looks very small inside compared to other SUV’s especially in the back seats.

Just keep in mind that we getting New X5 in the 1st quarter of 2014 , I am sure that will knock a few cents off the E70’s price.

I have never driven in an E70 but definitely nothing wrong with the E53. I believe the E70 is larger inside than the E53.

It actually is.... BUT.... the E53 is more agile around corners
I have direct comparison between "Charcoal" the E53 3.0d and Natascha's E70 3.0d

A friend of mine has a 2007 3.0 diesel, Space Grey, 145,000 km, in excellent condition.
He is asking R215,000.00.
Let me know if you are interested.

Hi guys, I have been reading every forum on the internet relating to the E53 series X5. I have owned mine since 2005 (2004 Model). I had a run in with blocked water drains in the spare wheel area (seems to be a common problem) and lost my Amplifier and Navigation unit. Used Ill be able to replace them for R15,000 :argh:

Other than this issue, the vehicle has been a pleasure to drive. Its on 94,000KM, the interior is as good as new (i'm not one to "Slide into the seat"). I cant think of a better vehicle for a family. I'm contemplating selling it to buy myself a newer 7 series, just worried Id me making a bad decision.

Are the 2008-2009 750i's good vehicles? I suppose they consume more liters/100km than the X5?

09 saw the introduction of the F01 which is the current shape 7, so you will be looking at a massive price bump between 08 and 09.

The E65 is a supurb motor vehicle.

I have a 2006 750 which is in good condition, 200k and its yours, book is 300+

There are quite a couple of F01 750i's floating around in 09 year with 30 or 40k on the clock in the region of 550 to 600k.

The E65 saw the 4.9 V8 or the M62B49 motor, which in my mind is a marval of engineering,

The F01 however sees the N62 motor, and the 750 is a 4.4V8 with 2, count them, 2 turbo's on it.

The F01 is an absolute dream.

On the F01 750, most things are standard, heads up display, comfort seats, navigation, bla bla bla, so a 750 will give you a far broarder indication of pricing.

I personally prefer the E53's shape, but I am a bit biased.

I guarantee you it's only the amp, the nav unit acts up if the amp is shot, I had exactly the same issue, most of the buttons didn't work ect.. I replaced the amp at R3500 and everything is fixed!

Hi thanks for the reply! I saw this advert and thought it was a hell of a lot of car for the money, you cant even buy a 2012 golf GTi for that kind of money.

How many kilometers has yours got on the clock? Have you got any photos. I want to sell my 2004 X5 4.4i Sportpack and buy a 7 Series. Can you send me some photos of yours?

I also posted in the audio section of the forum, Im trying to find a replacement amplifier (DSP 2 with Navigation ) and the navigation unit which takes the DVD. I had blocked water drains in the trunk and mine were ruined, got a techie looking at my units now, but if he cant fix them I need to buy used units as BMW wants R16k for the amp alone which really sucks.
