Buying a secondhand BMW from dealer

If a car is advertised at a certain price but no mention is made of the OTR cost of R3 500, what are my legal rights as to arguing that the price advertised is the price i want to pay. I see that many dealers advertise the price and then say "OTR costs not included", which is acceptable. But in the case above, it was not suggested or printed in fine print that i can see on the advertisement of the car?

I just bought my car from a BMW Dealer and there was no mention in the listing of OTR charges. I had assumed then that they had included it in the sale price. I must admit I never questioned it though and nothing was said to me when I took delivery of the car. Have you spoken to the sales person involved regarding this? If you have an OTP it might be in there, can't remember how it was with mine, but definitely wasn't mentioned to me.

Sorry, meant to ask, from a BMW dealer or an independent dealer? If independent, they are supposed to divulge the OTR charges if I am not mistaken.Like I said,no mention from BMW themselves during the course of my purchase.

There is no mention of it on the advertisement on the internet. The sales person was adament that i pay and that seeing the they had "discounted" the car already by R20k, they are not going to discount the OTR costs, which was R3 600 in my case. I got the car today but am still not happy about the OTR costs, which i paid in order to be able to receive the car. Auto Atlantic in Cape Town.

That's now the second occasion in a week that someone has had an issue with a BMW dealership in CT. There was one regarding SMG last week and now yours. They HAVE to declare those charges to you prior to you signing so that you know what all the costs are. That's pretty brazen from them. That's part of the NCA and CPA as far as I know, that ALL hidden costs have to be divulged so that the consumer makes an informed decision, and isn't simply dropped with additional charges out of the blue. Sounds a bit dodgy to me to be honest.

2008 E90 330d auto. White with black leather, sunroof, rear pdc, electronic tow hitch, zenons with washers. MP till July 2014. Car has 90k on the odo.
Had a look at the history of the car. Seems to have had oil service about every 10k which seems short to me. Also, whipped off the inlet tract to the air filter and found the filter not clean. Asked A... A....... for the service report and it shows it was "serviced" 1k ago but no mention of air filter replacement. They did fit a new tyre (do not know the reason as the other tyres look fine, about 80% tread). Also am waiting for the 101 point inspection results which they had promised to perform prior to sale. Was not valet'd but Auto Armored.

The service indicator rolls down a bit faster when you drive a bit harder. If the car was services every 10k according to the odometer, then it means that this diesel was 'enjoyed'. I used to tow a 6m trailer at slightly 'un-legal' speeds and I got 11k between services.

Further to the air filter, my turbo popped about 1500km after I had the previous service and upon opening everything, I also had the dirty air cleaner.

Dunno about the E90, but on the E46 replacing the air filter is a schlep, so most dealer skip it if they can. And the sad thing is that there is no quick way to tell if they did change it, irrespective of the fact that they gave you someone else's dirty filter as proof...

I had a good look at the Motorplan service reports and according to the prescribed instructions in the service booklet the airfilter and diesel filter should be changed every 3rd oil service which in this case seems to be so, as the cost for the oil service is about R2,4k where as the inbetween oil service is about R850, which leaves me to assume that the air and diesel filters were changed then. They had recently (1k kms ago) done a second inbetween oil service so the next one (if i do about 10k kms in the next 6 months) will be air and diesel filters again. At this point in time i doubt if i will be doing 3k kms with this car in the next 6 months. MP lapse in July this year and i doubt if i will extend it another year due to cost. The brake discs have quite a lip so i am going to try and get them to replace the discs at least. Have an appointment for next week Thursday for them to look at the discs, etc.

I always like to sit in my car in Hermanus when the wife is shopping, and watch all the cars passing by lol, esspecially the BMW's.
Congratulations on your new tractor :)

Thanks Stiaan!
Hellas, my theory is that the oil seperator is the main culprit with blown turbos together of course with dirty oil (long oil change intervals) and then not letting a turbo cool down before switching off.
