Guys,

I'm sure this has been discussed before. I've been getting mixed reviews, more negative than positive.

I am on the verge of landing a 2007 model, but now have my doubts. It had high mileage(190000km). It is a 7 seater as well.

One of views I got is that it will be a money pit with too many electronics that are costly that can break.

From your experiences, please give me the reasons for or against it.

I don't have an E70 but they amazing from what I know, When I was looking biggest concern was Air suspension and that 30D motor is solid

Plus any car might have issues and depending might be expensive

We have the 2007 3.0si 7-seat with sports suspension. 110,000kms (yes, suspiciously low mileage)

Issues so far are the EPB, butbwe drive it despite the failure warning, just use the gear lever park, and the rear right suspension sag, hoping to replace air spring soon.

Oh the panoramic roof interior fabric is also peeling off and sagging.

Other thing is that the petrol NA flat 6 is not as powerful as the 200kw suggests.

Otherwise, lively ride.

Ih, the 7-seats are an absolute RIP-off. Kids above 10 years cant usethem. No space at all. The younger kids that fit there sit too low to see outside the window nor in front. It's such a joke.

SO had a 2007 3.0d.... bought it 2011 @125k. I upgraded the wheels. Owned it for 8 years... did another 100k on it. Regular servicing and maintenance. Only major items changed was the Control arms due to wear and rear wheel bearings. On the electronics only the controller for the radio/ OBC (due to kids leaning on it whilst in the car) and boot lock actuator due to harsh closing of the tailgate. Ours had the normal suspension.

Other than that it never skipped a beat... was a pleasure to drive and still one of the best vehicles we owned. Still in the family.

Air suspension a concern as well as the electronic handbrake... Other than that imho its an E60 on stilts... So a pretty great car!

Strong motors, what fails is other things other than the motor.
electronics (Parking brake broke twice on mine, its expensive to fix, anything from R8k to R22k, depending if its a recon or new)

the ring globes are a nightmare to replace on older cars, its not easy at all.

the fog lights are prone to damage,

mine also had a tow hitch, mechanism failed BMW wanted R20k, I drove the thing despite the error on the dash.

The oil housing gasket might need replacement, BMW will want around R6k

I would strongly recommend the LCI model. Nice cars to have, the loading space is a gem, I could fit doors from builders in the car, no hassle.

Also heard that injectors cost a pretty penny and aftermarket in most cases only work for a short while, from what my mech mentioned.. Usually they give issues closer to 200k, but I know some have run higher mileage without needing these done.

He also mentioned the electronics can be a bit finicky, especially the electronic handbrake.

As with anything, this is luck of the draw.. My 2c would be to hold off for an LCI.

Here's some information on the air suspension: https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=86502&highlight=e70+air+suspension+fail

@Blue Shirt could probably shed more light.

Air suspension is a big issue on the cars, expensive to repair..
Yes, on ours:
- Electronic Park Brake
- Air suspension (rear)
- Knocking tailgate
- Sagging panoramic roof fabric
- Rear view cam unusable at night. Very poor graphics
- AUX connection to audio not working. Failed to trace cause.

I don't trust 'roadside' dealerships where the cars are parked outside or under a sunshade. No showroom, makes you wonder how a 'clean' car would ever end up there.

Just my opinion. I know nothing about LFA Auto and I'm not throwing shade (or sunshade) on them.

So this is the vehicle in question:dunnoanymore:

I saw this and was hoping it wasn't the same one... Honestly, I would just give this car a skip.

That dealership seems like a 'scammy' one.. I've seen some ads from them that make me question the legitimacy.

If your heart is set on it, check and triple check EVERYTHING.

Came back with faults from Dekra, which they had to sort out and Dekra now passed it as per Bank requirements. Bank also insisting on 2 year Motorite warranty...

Good luck with the purchase bud...

As for the warranty, given the age/mileage of the vehicle you would most likely fall under plan C - The benefit cover is very limited, so make sure you keep spare cash aside for a rainy day fund.

Not set on it, can always pull out of the deal, even though finance is approved and I asked them to sort out the things I felt needed to be replaced/fixed/repaired...

Bud in my opinion wait for an Lci or another X5, I looked at an X5 at this LFA place when my brother was looking and the one we looked supposedly accident free, had overspray all over, panels didn’t line up, etc. I was kind of expecting it anyway due to it being a roadside dealership as gents have said, so yeah didn’t get good vibes from that place.

Also that one has lci rims on, I’m already thinking about the reasoning behind this.
