PJ - a lot of care went into the car . Y the sale

When did the first M3 that came to SA get dated. On another note the E36 or Mcoupe are true M3 cars....... Everything afterwards became a compromise.

Yoh, lucky opinions are not the be all and end all cars:thumbdo:

Same could be said when comparing a E30 M3 to E36 M3.

Pity we didn't get the E30 . Though the statement holds true . Larger and heavier hence the 1 M taking it back to its roots.

@dhp. You forgetting the improvement of the safety aspect of cars and manufacturers needing to comply with safety regulations throughout the years. Nowadays also having to comply with emissions etc.
1M as nice as it is, is simply Bmw combining parts from its catalogue. Nothing unique about it.
Oh yeah and forced induction? M roots? Eh?

Did I not qualify my statement. Making specific reference to only two items .

I made no mention of the engine . No need to go off in a tangent

My E36 M3 may be for sale if this E46 is in gum tree is in good condition.

http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-cars/kempton-park/bmw-e46-m3-for-sale/1001088520360910170602009

but the E36 is not standard. Motor is modified - head and cams, vanos locked.
Accident free , aftermarket leather race light seats .
Polished wheels
Good Tyres
No aircon
Ex track car, have it for 5 years now. Had No issues except a clutch was replaced.

Maybe you should consider this E46 as well.

back to the topic... Tareeq needs advice...

I bought a 4 door about 2 years ago...
I replaced quiet a bit (dealers are bunch of thieves) with OEM parts.
it costed me quite a bit but I have peace at heart :)

Servicing is decent...
Parts can be expensive like brakes and sensors (OEM)
other parts are decent...
some stuff really ridiculous because it scarce or no stock and needs to be made/ordered

But overall decent...

It not all doom & gloom though. Clutch kits can be purchased aftermarket for almost half the dealer cost....generally Sachs is the way to go. I got a quote on a clutch at R3500 but lucky for me, the makky told me my clutch is still perfect

I think my frt brake disks was R3900 at the agents

Clutch kit from agents not that bad actually... R7 to 8.5k depending on your relationship... sometimes better... Flywheel about R5k

Brake disks about R1.1k per disk pads about R600 for set...

6x Spark plugs R1200 to R1400... 100 or 120 000km life

Stand to be corrected

but if you can negotiate you can get nice prices.
