Hi, I would please like advice. I am looking at getting a 2003 325 auto with 173k on clock.Service records are "reasonably" up to date.
Anything to be weary of with auto box?
Anything to worry about with 173k on clock? they could double that mileage with good servicing oil change I hear....
And lastly how do I figure out if this one has terrible consumption like some have reported... (cant always believe OBC I hear)
Any advice greatly appreciated!

Buying an auto e46 at that mileage is a risk - the gearbox could go at anytime.

Also, if you're going to buy an e46 at that mileage, you are going to want to know what work has and hasnt been done, because there could be a list a mile long of maintenance that needs to be done. The car is only as good as its maintenance history.

I agree with Adis....also it depends on driving style where consumption is concerned and it being an auto i would think it's heavier on juice than a manual 330

Thats True. Gearbox oil at that mileage. thats why I replace my oil every 40 000km. to 60 000km I had my oil on my E90 replaced at 40 000km when I bought it. prevention is best. when I sell I have all the papers on file. a stamp in a book means nothing to me. i always ask for a printout and put it on file

Hi

I have a 325ci auto. consumption on the autos are horrible...especially once you fit bigger wheels. mine on average now is about 13.5l - 14l per 100km (that's riding on 20's)...lovely cars and the motors are bullet proof. i bought mine with high mileage 166k on the clocka nd have had it for 8 years. motor or box hasnt given me an ounce of issues...its currently on 240k. But i guess its what you buy. im fanatical about maintenance and also belive prevention is the way forward.

i drive it on wekeends only, but im happy with mine. wouldnt change it for the world...
