Yo guys what's up???

2 friends of mine both with 135s went to go and dyno at Budler on friday...
The results are what's puzzling me and would like to know if any of you have experience with this dyno?

The 1st car did a bse of 213wkw without sw and then 285wkw and 578nm with sw,dp, cooler...I know this car is strong!!

The 2nd car has only sw from some mystery guy in CT, the car did 299wkw and 614nm....that just doesn't sound right with just sw...

Any input?

Sounds like that dyno is over reading a bit? You sure this is not calculated back to the fly?
I only did 285wkw 700nm at KAR running FBO's and a strong 75% meths mix, stock turbo's just run out of steam in the thin highveld air after 5000rpms, no matter how smooth your timing is or what boost target you set. So given the above restriction, and considering that the car was most probably only running on crappy 95 octane & maybe some octane booster, I just don't see how a 135i with just software could achieve anything near 299wkw?? :dunno:

That was wheel kw and the correction factor for the day was 28%.
The car will go back and run on the Dyno again. There are no spikes on the Graph, it hold peak power from +/- 4280-4950. That would indicate that there was no traction issues on the rollers.

Which dyno at Budler did you guys run on ? The top one part of Budler Motorsport (top building) or the bottom one (BME Tuning)

Did the car face towards the street or the workshop wall when on the dyno ?

Yo guys...

For the sake of the forum and keeping things the same, won't you guys go dyno at WRC in kempton...

Most tuners and forum members use that dyno as std dyno...

But have to say it again, 2 strong cars but the one with just sw is f#cking strong it seems!!!

Must be a blast...

Top Dyno by Budler.
As you all know every dyno is different and should only be used as an indication. It can be used as a tool to see if the alterations/changes you have done yield more power or not. The figure given by the dyno was the base line to work from.
I have no doubt in my mind that these two cars will have different readings on other dyno`s. Whether it be more or less.

WRC was in Edenvale, but as far as I know they have closed down. KAR is in Kempton though

The top dyno gives a much higher reading, than the lower dyno. The bottom dyno is very accurate in terms of HP achieved vs Trap speed achieved, but may appear to read lower than some commonly used "reference dyno's" such as KAR.

Guys everyone knows dynos are tools to use and give good indication to the power gained from mod to mod, the big thing here is a FBO car vs a sw only car where the sw only car puts out +-15wkw more than the FBO car and we don't seem to know what "brand" sw it is...

@turbo1 do you race your car. You must get some times on that baby....

I think Turbo 1 must introduce himself properly before giving us science on a dyno reading.

Can you get a printout of the graph & I will show you that the dyno must have been set for flywheel power or it over-reads quote a bit because I chipped a bone stock 135 on this dyno once and eventually got 303kw after fine tuning a bit more.

Well can you explain the difference between the 2, the one being FBO and the other just sw?

I know the FBO car runs very strong, I've seen it beat plenty cars and plenty n54 and n55s...

Its raced a guy named Zico or something that was said to be tunned by you and put 3 cars on him...in 3 races??

What I don't know is who tuned it,mabe even xcede...

Turbo1 on this forum owns the sw only car mabe he can post the graph...

@ NoMercy, your car sounds strong from what you've said.

Will be good to see how your numbers compare on one of the "benchmark" dyno's

Are you in the South, that you went to Budler ?

FR&R tuning in Centurion have Dyno Nights twice a month on a Thursday, and their numbers are pretty close to KAR. Just mentioning another option

Just a reminder, I did not start the topic, and never did I claim the Dyno figures to be SABS certified.:=):
I used this dyno figure a a Guide line for my future Upgrades. I will go back to the same dyno after every change I do the the car.....one at a time to eliminate the Guess work!
Here is the Dyno print out. It is a comparrison overlay between the two cars.

@Turbo1

When you go back there, ask them if its possible to do a run on the bottom dyno as well for comparison purposes.

As you said using the same dyno to judge your % gains is the most important thing, it will be interesting to see the difference though.

In relation to what Sherwin said, the numbers match with the car he did, but they are a little inflated when compared to other dyno's.

The top dyno at Budler is a Inertia dyno and does not use load.

This car that eventually made 303kw at Budler made 257kw at KAR & 252kw at Snail a few years ago. So that particular dyno was reading 50kw too high, but the other dyno at Budler is pretty stingy.

This car had no hardware:

Hey guys this is just a discussion on a forum....hahah

Just 2 cars that dynoed....

Serwin you know a lot about tuning and and esspecialy these cars...

Any reason the fbo and sw only cars would differ so much and looking at your and turbo1's dyno figures, why do the torq differ so much, +-80nm, that's a lot even tho power is almost the same?

Due to the small size of the turbine wheels on the N54 the power peaks between 4000-5000 and then just cannot supply the demand on a 3.0l engine any further.
Its nice to see Sherwin car making its peak at 5365 RPM
