Hi All

I would like to build a super reliable S54 and based on the research that i did, these are the items I need to negate the weak areas of the engine :

Beisan Vanos Seals Repair Kit $60
Beisan Vanos Rattle Repair Kit $80 (Do these Vanos kits come with the torx style bolts or are there better bolts like ARP that can be sourced?)
VAC performance rod bearing kit $400
ARP Performance Head Stud bolts $225
Oil pump disk redrill (?)
Valve adjustment (Mostly labour cost - shims can get obtained locally)

Miscellaneous :

VAC UUC Engine and Transmission mounts $255

Are there any other points of failure worth mentioning?

Any local stockists of the above or best to order from VAC directly? Or any other online stores that have the best pricing on these parts?

The car is a weekend cruiser that I plan on keeping for a long time.

Thanks

Hey buddy, I've got a massive thread up on changing bearings on an S65 motor. You might want to check it out, with a few observations as to why I stuck with stock bearings as opposed to going the VAC route.

And the Beisan seals are available locally as well ;)

That's the two biggest issues when these cars age, being high revving performance engine.

Driving your car in fear really makes you feel alive :YesNo:

All of the above sounds good, I have done some of it but so far it is very reliable.
Just remember the basics: warm her up well before driving hard and do frequent oil changes

Hi All

I would like to build a super reliable S54 and based on the research that i did, these are the items I need to negate the weak areas of the engine :

Beisan Vanos Seals Repair Kit $60 - yes
Beisan Vanos Rattle Repair Kit $80 (Do these Vanos kits come with the torx style bolts or are there better bolts like ARP that can be sourced?) yes just get new cam bolts from bmw and use loctite
VAC performance rod bearing kit $400 yes
ARP Performance Head Stud bolts $225 why? I wouldn't
Oil pump disk redrill (?) yes
Valve adjustment (Mostly labour cost - shims can get obtained locally) yes

To add - CDV delete

Miscellaneous :

VAC UUC Engine and Transmission mounts $255 no - unless it's a dedicated track car you will grow old of the NVH I took mine out very soon after I installed it

Are there any other points of failure worth mentioning? possibly getting the upgraded oil pump internals if yours is a high miler

Any local stockists of the above or best to order from VAC directly? Or any other online stores that have the best pricing on these parts? BMW and either OBDWorx or Axiz on the forum

The car is a weekend cruiser that I plan on keeping for a long time.

Thanks

Well done on taking pride and responsibility in a great car :clapper:

Thanks for all the assistance guys.

Getting the vanos items sorted this month and then will sort the bearings out when I get a chance in the next couple months.

Went past crazydetailer and got some products for the car - came out decently for a first time pass at detailing. Will post some pics later.

Been trying to get the pics up but difficult from my cell. Anyone I can mail them too?
Fitted some straight pipes though - my word is it loud! Going to remove them tomorrow. Sounds insane when driving the car hard but any short shifting etc doesn't agree with this exhaust. Will be selling the straight pipes or just removing the tips and putting the bigger tailpieces on.

Hey bud, could you please post a link to the VAC vs Stock bearing thread?
