A few pics of progress made

The selected components have been cleaned and checked and fettled ready to accept new seals.

We have basically used the vanos body from the car and the components from the import unit to make one complete working unit.

Inlet cam piston side complete and now waiting for oil pump disc to complete the assembly of the vanos unit and install.

Cam hubs and gears being changed to install the imported pieces.

Exhaust hub fitted and Lysis has set the depth of the spline shaft.

New oil pump disc which has been drilled.
As a side note this imported unit was in very good condition as is evidenced by the minimal oscillation marks on the pump disc itself.

Just confirming that the timing chain cover is clean :)

Had to change a bottom radiator hose and the quickest way was to remove the radiator. Took the opportunity to clean it.

Bottom brace cover unit

and its bolts.

As Walt will confirm this is not how the car came in.

In closing this was more an undertaking in patience rather than a complicated job in addition Walt has been an absolute star to work with always lending support and encouragement.
I trust that he will enjoy his convertible to the fullest possible.

Well let me just say this.

Peter always says thanks for the opportunity to work on your car, in this case i have to say thanks for taking the time and effort to fix my girl up. She pulls like a freight train, smooth and clean no hesitation/jerk/deadspot. Idle tone has changed can't describe it but there is certainly more harmonious.

Drove it like a new car the first 200km never running constant rpm to long, keeping it below 4K, the next 400km was 50:50 highway running mostly got a 8.5 per 100 on the highway and a combined 9.9l taking into account 2 hours of just cruising around PTA last night.

The last 100km before polokwane i lost all self restraint. Yhea Freight train is the wrong word since those things are slow lets say it goes like a TGV. Did that in about 35min or so. Tucked up under a blanket in the garage untill my mechi has time to drop the sump.

Start of the travels when i was still doing a nice 130.

Peter will probably stab me for ^^^ but impulse control i have none and a dead straight N1 is a calling for the speed freak in me.

An update on the car.

Sump was removed and thankfully nothing was found lurking.
Oil pump gear is clean with no score marks so our suspicion is that the car chewed the tab and was taken in for repairs that may have proven very expensive and the previous owner did the minimum and then sold the car.

I believe that it is currently under cover and will only be used when Walt wants to terrorise the neighbours.

Yep. All clear was given.

Front end was stripped out sump removed my usual mechanic found nothing. While he had it we changed the driveshaft coupling since it was shot, rear balljoints, upper controlarm bush, front controlarm bushes.

Most of the work i wanted done has now been done.

Thanks again Peter, much apperiacted.
