Brand new Noob but old love for the BMW

Hey guys,

I was referred to this forum and was told the guys are great and helpful. Well I'm a first timer on the forum and just wanted to introduce myself.

This is probably in the wrong place but I'm looking to buy an e30. Not sure where to start. I am in Cape Town but will be moving to Joburg for work for a year or two and figured it would be easier to get one up there.

I'm not looking at getting an e30 M3 or 325is as they are difficult to find and tough to maintain. I love the naturally aspirated straight six so was thinking a regular 325i or even the baby 318is (not a straight six I know). So does anyone have any advice or suggestions on where to start? I don't mind investing time and money into a car either. I just want something I'm proud of...

Thanks...

I think you might still find a clean 316i or 318i in JHB, but good examples are becoming rare and the lemons are becoming more. I doubt if the 318iS is available off the shelf in South Africa, here they are mostly self built or imported. However the performance of the 318i is nothing to be frowned at, I find it to be quite quick off the starting blocks and it is a well-balanced daily driver and easy to maintain.
