Hay guys just wanted to know if anyone tried or heard of aftermarket branches for the e46 M
Iv looked at supersprint stepped headers and some others claim around 15rwhp gain

Anyone got any 1st hand info on this?

the only info I have seen is on american forums, where their headers are extremely restrictive and have the cats built into them.

all of the header they then use, eg supersprint are modelled after the euro OEM headers

You dont need headers on an Euro E46 M3. The US models had cats built into the headers, hence the gain when they fit other ones.

Say dude, who did you speak to at Xcede? We haven't done any branches on an E46 M3 as far as I know. The E46 branch is a work of art from the factory. I doubt anyone local can beat it's design.

Thanks guys sherwin I spoke to shaan in durban

Ahh, maybe he did some in Durban that I was not aware of. This is the factory branches, designed by the BMW formula 1 team at the time.

The exhaust manifold’s length, tubing diameter and the manner in which each cylinder is linked to the other is critical when attempting to maximize an engine’s power output. The manifold configuration can be manipulated in order to generate maximum power at low, middle or high rpm, changing the shape of the power curve accordingly. Naturally some compromise must be accepted when tuning an exhaust manifold for a street-car as the goal is typically to ensure balanced power output at low, middle and high rpm. This is in contrast to a race-engine where the exhaust manifold can be tuned specifically for maximum performance at high rpm.

So the factory manifold is near perfect when it comes to all-round power. But I suppose their are gains to be had if you are going balls-to-the-walls with full-on mods like cams, heads, high rev-kit, etc. There you will focus on high rpm power & the manifold design will be modified for maximum flow up top. But you must bear in mind that you will be compromised low down & in the mid. But if you want an NA monster, that's the sacrifice we have to make.
