Hi guys,

So it's time for me to do the rear brake pads, and I wondering if anyone has any recent feedback regarding brake pads? I have searched and the latest I can find is from about a year ago. With regards to brands, I have the following quotes:

Agents: R1084 incl sensor

GW: Febi Bilstein: R826 incl sensor (the sensor is about R190)

Midas: Ferodo: R750 excl sensor

Grandmark: Deselra: R431 excl sensor

This is the first time I've heard about Deselra, does anyone perhaps have a review on them? I've read mixed reviews regarding Ferodo, with some claiming they are too hard and wear down very quickly.

Any advice is highly appreciated.

At 300 buks price difference between Ferrodo and the originals,
I'd go for the originals...

Rear pads last much longer, so paying a little extra is not going to be an issue (i hope).

Forget the Deselra. At that price, it would be sketchy...

When I bought my 30d it had Deselra pads on the front, they are definitely not performance pads, but for normal driving conditions they served their purpose, stopped the car fine during a bit of spirited driving as well.

Only reason I changed them was because I bought new discs and went with EBC Ultimax pads as they are decently priced.

The Ferodos are excl the sensors which puts them at around R940 with the sensor assuming you get the sensors for R190.

I would rather add the R144 extra and go with the Agents or check if you can get EBC Ultimax

i put Febi in from GW.
They are fine, no noises or anything funny to report.

If it were me, I would look at the agents purely because of the price difference being so small.

Currently have Ferodo on my E46 rear and they are great, albeit a bit hard. Put Textar (from Autozone) on the front a few months ago and whilst they are very decent, the amount of brake dust is shocking.

How are the condition of your discs on the car? Check that they can be skimmed or perhaps you need new ones, if there are ridges/uneven surfaces on the face of the disc.

Nothing wrong with Deselera pads.. they are the home brand for Star brake and clutch.

I have used them on a few cars without any problems and they dont make a lot of dust or eat the discs..
Otherwise Textar is also good pads...

Textar = OEM for the e90 (well atleast for the 4 pots), You can get them for a few bucks cheaper from Midas...think I paid R700 (excl sensor), about a year ago :hammerhead:

The condition of the discs are quite good, the ridge on the lip is about 1/2 mm each side which isn't enough to justify skimming/replacement at the moment, perhaps with the next set of pads I'll have them replaced.

Surprisingly it's almost impossible to get Textar in Bloemfontein :dunnoanymore: :fencelook:

Heard that Ferodo is decent. No personal experience with it.

Febi Bilstein can get f* imo. I literally went back to the store after the bedding process and got them to change it for something else.

I used Deselera once on the 325i. Not a performance brake however it wasn't bad either. Wore down pretty well considering the abuse it took as well.

Textar is OEM for your car and you're guaranteed to have no comebacks due to this though...

Further update, Autozone Bloemfontein only stocks Safeline for R690 excl. sensor, they don't stock the sensors at all.

From the sounds of things, Textar is the way to go.

You can get a surebrake sensor from GW for about R100...works the same as OEM

OEM pads produce a load of brake dust! Dying to change them but they still to new and they squeak a lot after some sprit driving. Overall they good because they OEM a I guess ( 330i E90 )

Replaced front discs with Deselra recently and they holding up extremely well. Will definitely change my pads out to Deselra to try them out. For the price why not.

Thats decent pricing on Deselra but have not used them.

I used Febi products for the Merc, dicss (vented) and pads...but it became noisy and wore out damn quick!

Fitted the originals and it is night and day different in performance and wear.
I would say, get the originals, your brakes are important.

I paid R419 for a set of Textar rear brake pads last year from Torre who are the official supplier of Textar parts in SA. That was the only place that had them when I was looking.

I’ve also got front and rear Deselra pads in the garage and I think my car currently has them on aswell since I got it and they are good.. they hold well and no brake dust.

I think since it’s not a popular brand, people won’t really go for it.
