Brake dust

I'm going insane. Is there any body out there who has the same problem?:bangdesk:

Can't keep my wheels clean there is too much brake dust. I'm not heavy on brakes because I hate dirty wheels.:yuck: Its a 02 330i step Individual.

With all my cars I wash my wheels every 3rd nite or so. and car once a week unless I see dirt or dust then I'll wash every day if I have to. I'm OCD when it comes to a dirty car.:nonono:

But with this BM I find my self every nite after I put the kids to sleep I'm in the garage washing wheels. I've never seen something like this. Are there pads out there that give less dust off than others.

I know ATE pads are very messy but I've got no idea what I've got at the moment.:flyfun:

I have the same problem on my E90.

The wheels stay clean for about 2km after i washed them.

It's probably todo with type of pads you have.

I've got ATE all round on my car, when I fitted them I applied a generous layer of copperslip between the pad and calliper piston to help with squeel (and I have none at all). Dont know if this helps with the dust, but I dont have an issue with dust either.

Yup, kind of like a grease. But it works for the hated squeel... its only between the piston and the rear of the pad, nowhere near the disk..

I like the brake dust... gives my wheels that Anthracite colour that i'm looking to do! :rollsmile:

Jokes aside, i dont think there's any getting away from it... Your best bet is to minimize the wash time.

Give the wheels a really good scrub (clean, de-tar, clean again) and then slap on a layer or 2 of wax/sealant.

Makes cleaning LOADS easier... :thumbs:

Dust is just a fact of life, though I have to say the bilstein pads I have on at the moment don't make as much dust, though I have to say I am not really impressed with them, fades really quickly :nonono:

Just don't leave the wheels dusty for to long as this will make it really hard to clean it later on, though I don't think this will be a problem with the OP :grin:

i dont have any dust, but i think it has something to do with the colour of my wheels :rollsmile: before i painted them i cant say i noticed any more dust than any of my other cars...

if you really get OCD about your wheels, get some Rimwax.

Take your wheels off your car, wash them thoroughly with Sonex Rim Cleaner, then wax on, wax off.

this stuff really works great at repelling dust and makes cleaning much easier

If you want better pads that have very little dust go for EBC Redstuff. Love them on my car.

i have done my back wheel and not yet my front wheels too see difference. Yes back wheel get less does because they work less but i noticed a difference. and it clean MUCH easier

Its like a small scratch or dent.
