Brake disk light

The warning light that says my brake disks need to be replaced is on in my mini cooper. I have had the disks checked and they don't need to be replaced so maybe there is a problem with the wiring. Has anyone had this problem before and any suggestions on where to go to have it looked at (other than BMW), I am Cape Town based.

You say that you had a look at the discs? Are you referring to the brake pads? Did you inspect front and rear?

What difference does it make if I am male or female? The pads where replaced a year ago, there is no ptoblem with the pads the problem is the light. Does anyone know the best place to take the car to have the wiring looked at?

The light that says the discs need replacing?

Is this a first or second generation car?

The only way the car can know when the discs need replacing is by time? this should be able to be fixed by just resetting the service indicator. And according to my booklet there is no light that shows that the discs must be replaced.

Check brake fluid level and if that is not the problem have the service indicator reset. Google it you will see how to.

Hope you come right.

If the light is on with a combination of other things then there might be something else amis.

These cars are not known for troublesome wiring. So Some more info will be great so we can sort you out.

Good luck!

I am based in Cape Town. It is a orange light on the center of the dash by the big speedo, it is round and has little lines all around it (the picture), when I look it up in my book it says brake disks - get them checked out they need replacing, so I got the pads and disks checked and apparently they are fine. I would assume it has sensors if there is a light for it? It is a mini cooper, 2004 model. The car is not due for its next service for a while.

That is what I wanted to know. a 2004 model same as what I had, has no replace brake disc sensor or light? It has sensors in the front left and right rear brake pads.

There is no sensor on the disc and the car is not capable of measuring disc thikness.

I take it the light has been off all the time from when you had the pads replaced till now?

Who replaced the pads? and did they replace the sensors aswell? As even if the pads are still fine the sensor, if not relpaced can cause issues directly after replacement or a bit down the line.

But, unless you have a very special car and booklet, I can not see a replace brake disc light in my user manual.

Did you check the brake fluid?
