Look what I bought myself today, a 1990 316i for R8 000. Papers and everything in order.
The car have 235 000km on the clock, have FSH up to 206 000km in 2003, when the old guy bought it, he only drove 29 000km in 11 years, but he neglected it quite a lot bodywise. Very badly rusted, but mechanically its 100%, drives very solid, even the aircon is still working.
Neat inside as well, cracked dash of course.
But yes, a lot of work lying ahead with the outside cosmetics, and the bloody rust.
The back panel by the taillights is rusted away, the taillights is keeping that panel in place haha.

So I'm going to need a few body parts in the next few months

Congrats on the purchase :rollsmile::bravo:

For 8k that's a lot of material. For 8k you can get... A scooter? Some clothes? A tv?

I'm planning at this stage just to patch it up a little, that it looks a little bit more decent, for my wife and child to use it up and down in town, as my E90 is taking some beating with a 4-year old and her little friends in the car, and the wife not really a car person, she don't care what they do inside the car, shoes on the seats, eating etc.

The old rusted E30 wil save my marraige as I'm constantly fighting with them about my E90 haha

Hi guys

Just a question for the experts, this old rust infected daily that I bought, have a knock in the engine somewhere, but I'm driving it for the past two weeks now every day.

Yesterday I checked the oil and water, nothing needed, but I opened the oil cap, the oil cap underneath, and inside the tappit cover its completely dry, I can put my finger in the tappit cover and it came out clean?

Is this normal? One mechanic told me that there's a splash plate inside, so there won't be oil.

Just strange for me, as I'm used to a oil cap being oily inside, and tappit cover being oily if you look inside?

Its a 316i m40 engine
