Bostik Super Gasket = kak

a few months ago i did the vanos seals, oil filter housing and valve cover gaskets on my e46. i used all genuine parts except the vanos seals (from beisan).

at the time, i was looking for rtv silicone gasket maker... and i came across the bostik super gasket brand. a few weeks ago, i smelled oil from the engine bay, and it seems that where the silicone was on the semi circle area (on back and front of the cylinder head) where you need to put silicone when changing the gasket has leaked.

you can literally see oil seeping passed the silicone, which is still very rubbery and peels off easily if you pull it.

i did clean the mating surfaces out properly with brake cleaner etc beforehand.

anyway, just be careful with this stuff, its shit. :RedNo:

You don't need any silicone or sealer with proper BMW gaskets or seals. As long as it's clean and the surface area isn't warped you'll be fine.
Ive had endless problems with sealants.
