Bonnet badge for E90

Does anyone perhaps have recommendations regarding where to source aftermarket badges that offer decent quality? The coloured top layer of mine has just disappeared, probably because of the adhesive deteriorating over time, but it did last 15 years.

The agents are wanting close to R900 for one, and reliable sources are telling me that everything they have sourced elsewhere lasts less than a year before there are major fading / cracking issues.

or go to carnival city and steal one from the parking lot
that's what everyone else does 'victim'

Yeah, but it's precisely the stealers' crazy prices that is creating that "market" for them!

Thanks akash - reasonable discount from Midrand, but still darn expensive for what it is.

Thanks Moose, but I'm based in PE. Tried to source a used one here, but no luck so far. I'm trying one of the aftermarket ones and we'll see how that goes. If it lasts 1/7 as long, I'll still be doing OK vs OEM.

Get a cheapie....apply some turtle wax uv protection and then clear vinyl or ppf on the badge....it wont last like an oem, but it will give you a fighting chance at it becoming yellow

I understand that they are expensive, recently replaced it on my mom's E90 as I had previously put an aftermarket one on that peeled after about 2 years.

The original actually didn't peel or fade, it somehow separated from it's base plate and fell off somewhere, or someone stole it off but was too stupid to remove the whole badge, leaving a plastic base with dry adhesive behind.

The way I see it is if you plan on keeping the car for a long time then R1000 every ten years isn't that bad. We've had it from 2009 and plan on keeping it longer.

Recently replaced the boot release handle as well as the soft rubber had torn, I find there is nothing better than replacing with OEM parts that just go right in and make the car feel new again. Or ZHP shift knobs, changes the feel of the car

But I understand that it is not viable for everyone. I just like to see BMW's looked after and usually the devil is in the details.

I absolutely agree in terms of using OEM parts wherever possible, and generally do so. Even oil and filters I get from the agents. Sometime it's not simply a case of affordability, it's more that I simply have trouble parting with close to R1000 for what is essentially a little plastic badge. Same as yours, @gordonfreeman509, the thin part with the logo separated from the backing. The adhesive seems to deteriorate over time and eventually lets go.

I have fitted a "cheap" version, which actually looks superb - one would be hard pressed to tell it apart from OEM. I'll see how it lasts, but it was under R150. Fanatics price from Midrand was in the low 800's, but I would need to courier it to PE, so it wouldn't have saved me much compared to the dealer here. If the cheap one doesn't last, I'll go OEM, but it's not my daily driver so spends most of its time indoors anyway.

All I can say is that some of the cheap ones will yellow even if stored indoors. I have one here in my cupboard that is new and unused bit looks more yellow than the badge I had in my e12.

I agree with the sentiment of R1000 for a plastic disc being ridiculous. Because it is. I was just so annoyed when the aftermarket one peeled after 2 years that I said fuck it.

It's like the boot shocks, on my E90 (sold three years ago) I got some topran ones from goldwagen that were so aggressive it sounded like the hinges were being bent open, so on my mom's E90 I will probably go OEM even though they are like double the cost of Topran ones.

Eventually I bite the bullet and get OEM for these small parts.

Others like wiper blades obviously Bosch Aerotwins are fine because they are the OEM for BMW wiperblades anyway.

I know I had my whole thing about getting OEM everything and how it makes the car feel. That doesn't mean I don't swear at BMW when paying the ridiculous money for small stupid things  :roflol:

Or the passenger interior grab handle that melted, I just wrapped a piece of leather over it. Because I am in no mood to take a door panel off and plastic weld a replacement in. The sticky mess is holding the piece of leather in place.
