BMW's new stripe package? Really

Ok, now I am one of only two (I think) Fanatics on this forum with a car that has very loud OTT go-faster stripes, and I love them, on my car that is. This was all the rage on many "sporty" models in the seventies and, as long as they were original equipment in the day, I believe most of us look back on them with much fondness. They evoke memories, well for some of us anyway, of that era of disco, punk, bell bottoms, glitter balls, and I must throw in Star Wars. So on the classics (agree with Sank) they are retro cool and deliciously cheesy. I think it's different though regarding today's cars. We live in a different time, and cars today show their prowess in a different way. So, although I quite like it from a "paying homage to our past" kinda way, I don't think it is really suitable to be sold as a "spoeg en plak" kit for any modern BMW. In fact, it may very well cheapen the M image, which is already diluted enough. I think it could work on a very limited special run M car, and that would be it. That is how it was back then anyway. Just my 2c worth.

Sith,

Your era of car the technology and capabilites were differant, So I say you are not included in this debate :)

As for the bellbottoms "There we were in the middle of sexual revolution wearing clothing that garenteed you would not get laid" (Leary,n.d)

Back then it was the in thing.

Lets use the most basic car in the world and compare it with todays version.

The citi golf in 1980 with a thin stripe on the doors.

And then the citi golf in 2008 no stripes

Remember both these cars came out of the factory like this.

And also take in mind that this is the most basic car out there and it still gives the exact same message that we want BMW to notice.

Now i don't mind a thin pin stripe along the body line of a car. Or even the performance pack stickers(Wont put it on my car).
But what ever that front heavy looking 1M is. that doesn't fly with me.

And also take in mind.

BMW is, was and always will be a car of class, status, luxury and power.
Not a grade 2 finger painting. Don't know about you guys but the first place i bought a bmw is because i know I would be seen in a different way and be seen as a guy with class and taste.

If i pull up at a party with my BMW everybody is looking and thinking nice car and that this guys is sorted for life. Doesn't matter what beem it is.
If I rocked up with that M1 all the chicks would think '' Daddy bought the car and then i just went and plakked a load of stickers on.

Sorry BMW not good.

Now you see that is a whole different story.

When i bought my beem a month ago or so i wasn't so sure it was the right choice.

But now i want to plak fanatics stickers all over it and somme on my chicks car aswell. hehe. And she doesn't even have a beem. HAHA.

BMW for life. :praise:

I agree 100% Sith.
For me personally, these stripes are compulsory on an MLE, 2002 turbo and e9 CSL when their base color is either white or black.
I wonder what Coisman have to say about these STripes?:fencelook:

Uhm... (*whispers*) I kinda like the stickers on the 1... :sorry:

Usually I don't want any stickers on a car, but these don't look too bad to me. But there is no way that I'll pay R22 000 for that, maybe R1 000 at a stretch!

We reported last week that BMW intends to roll-out a new collection of Performance accessories for its M cars. And the one that got the most interest was the highly anticipate M Stripe package for the 1M. Originally rumored to be a throw-back design, the stripes clearly are a down-sized version of the same design that debuted earlier this spring on the M3.

I don't know about this look.

It seems like BMW and AC schitzer both go out of their ways to make a really good looking car ugly.

I think the 1M needs nothing to make it look any better as it is a super sexy car allready

What do you guys think?

Here is the X6 package?

Not a fan of the design and the price is just insane.....

Lets see who will be the first in S.A to have it done, there is always someone with more money than taste....
