BMWFanatics Track Day?

I have had the idea bugging me for some time for a Fanatics track day at Red Star Raceway, I haven't been there before but from what I have seen it looks like a fun track for my E36. It should be cheaper to rent out than any other track, who else is keen? Speedy, make it happen and there will be some more rep points coming your way!

Didn't even know this was there! Nice.
It does look like a bike track but if you don't ask you won't know.
Cars go around go-kart tracks all the time so I can't see why not
Sent them a mail to enquire (they not answering the phone)

Alright, spoke to the boss man.

Track was limited to bikes only but that changed about 3 months ago.
Track be hired for private days on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays
Cost for the track is R15,000 for the day
Marshals around R1,000 extra and medic another R1,000 extra estimated.
Marshals and medics not required.
No V8 Thunder saloons etc. allowed but they have had Ferraris and such on there so we should be good.
No gravel traps or barriers, if you go off there is veld, and then some more veld.
There is also a canteen for snacks and drinks and beers afterwards if needed.

They do require somebody to be in charge to co-ordinate the event, keep tabs on things and set some rules so people don't do stupid things.

Sounds good to me.

So how much would we be willing to pay?
R500 to R1000?
At R500 we would need at least 34 entries, paying a non refundable entry fee.

Or make it a R1000 and do something for charity, seeing that December holidays and Xmas is not that far off.

Would we get enough fanatics to at least cover costs, or will we have an open invitational maybe..

I have filmed at red star a few times for 2 wheels TV and it is a awesome track but last I herd was no cars allowed, I have been around in my 320D and gave it stick but just to get to the camera point.

I think the Tar service is too thin for Cars, its a pity this could have turned into a fantastic track day venue.

If you consider that any normal track day starts at R400 to somewhere around R900 give or take, and then you get very specific sessions when you are allowed go out.
To have the track for the whole day between 15 guys at R1000 each is actually a bargain.

That is usually the problem. To get a big group involved. R500 would be reasonable as VW track days usually cost around R600 these days and that is only for a normal Gymkhana. With a track like this you can properly open up

Just spoke to a friend that knows the owner and the track, she is there almost every weekend. She says 15k is realistic. And the reason we cannot get it over the weekends is because they have calendar events that pay big bucks. This goes through the entire year.

Just one note, the track is not very wide. So if we plonk a few cars on the track we will have to be careful.

BUT!! Good news. She said that if we get enough guys together Jaques will organize us the track on a Sunday. :fencelook:

A Sunday could work.

Obviously we can't circulate 1 car alone. But we have to use our own judgement on overtaking and being responsible.

I will probably not do more than 3 laps at a time before pitting for a cool down of brakes and so.

If there is 20 cars max, @ R1000 a pop, I'm sure there'll be enough track space and time for all off us.

We can also consider a slow class and a fast class...

We should really discuss it. I think this could really be a good idea that we can do for fairly cheap.

We can work something out regarding the amount of cars on the track. At the end of the day we just don't want 5 cars fighting for a corner type of scenario where there is no place to go. My initial idea was to do like they do with a rally. Let a car set off, 10 or 15 second gap and let the next go and do time trials like that.

So, I have the contact... now we just need the numbers. 15 or 20 people unfortunately won't cut it. Since he has to decide between us and his regulars booking the track it has to be worth it for him. :dunno:

Lets see if we can somehow bring in around the 30k margin.
