So its been a short week with the new car .
traded the 3.0d x5 on the M.
Apperance
i must say i am really liking the look of the car , the x5m has a different front end to the regular x5 and the lights are different
it has a wider track and is also a bit shorter in lenght.
the 20 inch wheels are the optional m sport variety and the black rims really set the white paint off.
all in all a decent looking "performance" suv
Ride and Handling
the ride on M cars is usually better than than its smaller brothers , this again is the case
with EDC engaged in normal mode , the ride is 10 times better than a normal x5 , and this is with runflats
handling wise , the M button once pressed changes the nature of the car and it seems to stiffen up quite a bit
you can throw it into corners like a normal car and have confidence that you will come out the other end.
Performance
the best part about driving an M car is the heads up display , which gives you speed , rpm and even navigation directions.
it can be set to display different things .
the whole point of this car though was to be able to keep the size i needed of an suv and go a bit quicker.
with 555hp standard the car gets off the line pretty well , the 6 speed box does a great job of changing up pretty quickly.
all in all i would say on a good day it would do a 12.7-12.6.
that being said once you get past 3rd gear the weight really blunts the performance and you can feel the acceleration dwindle.
to get the most out of the car you need to switch the traction control from M dynamic to Off
with this setting engaged you get some wheelspin and the back does come out slightly on hard launches and if you really push the car around corners.
the biggest disapointment is the exhaust note , it sounds like a vaccum cleaner .
Toys
this particular car has alot of options
side cameras that let you see exit roads and gives you a birdseye view of the car for parking
built in hard drive to store music from your cd's
soft close doors which weigh a ton but mean that the door actually closes itself if you lightly touch it to the car
7.1 surround sound which actually works pretty well
rear and front dvd screens for the kids.
planned mods
exhaust and downpipes
filters
software
expected 700hp on the fly , should be good for 11's then , but unlikely i will ever drag this suv .
average consumption thus far
