Hi Guys

Does the offroad package with offroad modes drastically improve the X5 offroad ability?

Can the Adaptive 2-axle air suspension option raise the ride height for driving?

I know you can lift the suspension but not sure why?

Reason for question:
So I've been playing with the idea to use my X5 for a Botswana and Namibia trip. Not Majore offroad stuff but allot of gravel road.

The comment I always get is: change the tyres to something with bigger sidewall.

Soooo I was thinking if you can drive in the highest +40mm mode I could fit much beefier tyres

My dude, bigger tyre size doesn't just affect vertical travel space required.

It also means that you have to make more space behind and in front of the front tyres for when they turn. I have seen many cars where the dumb moron fitted huge tyres in front and ended up destroying the wheel well lining.

if you want to fit higher profile tyres, you need to get smaller rims.

...and if you get smaller rims they won't fit your big brake discs or clear your big calipers that are apparently totally necessary on your 'sports SUV'

Yup I thought of that but those brakes are huge! So 20 inch is the smallest

I've taken the X5 on 2 offroad trips with no problem but yes I had to drive much slower to protect my tyres

You will not be able to drive the car raised because immediately when you speed, it automatically lowers it's self. I can't remember the exact speed at which it does that but you can test with yours. I think its around 60km/hr or 80km/hr, surprising that you don't know this

That's on a standard X5 I thought the offroad package give you a option to lock it up high
on the standard X5 without offroad package, you have sport, comfort, Eco and Adaptive. On the off road package you have all those modes plus xOFFroad mode but I doubt it will lock the car raised. You will have to drive slow to keep the car raised, I stand to be corrected on this one
