I have a E70 4.8i as my daily driver, with 184000 trouble-free kilometers.
There are lots of comments here about supposed problems with BMW V8's, most likely from people who have never owned a BMW V8 before.:cartel:
Even the air suspension is not so problematic on the E70's like on the E53's. The E70 4.8i only has rear air bellows, mine lasted about 170000 before the first one started a slow leak. It is an easy DIY to replace the bellows for about R4k each. The air ride is just superior in every way and I would not want the car without it.
If the V8 starts using a bit of oil or smokes at idle, replace the crankcase vent valves (R200 each, one on each side of the V8 banks), again an easy DIY. If you can replace an air filter, you can replace the crankcase vent valves.
The long-term fuel consumption on my car over the entire time I owned it, is 15.5 l/100km. I pay the fuel bill with a smile for the effortless power from the useless and troublesome V8 in my car.:YesNo:
