BMW X5 4.6IS

Hey guys,

So I went and bought a 2003 4.6IS last night, 150K on the clock, for 120K.

A problem on the car is that there is no sound coming from the Nav/Radio ect, also I noticed that the PDC doesn't make sounds, might be because of the same issue? So basically what I want to ask is, how do I reset the radio?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys..

Most of the cosmetics items are already ordered.

New LCD for navigation, new LCD/display for odometer cluster, new ac unit (buttons) where missing, rear view camera, diagnostics cable, new rear window regulator ect. All for 4K..

Anyways, tried some suggestions online to remove the fuses for the radio/nav, then insert again, for a moment there was sound, but more horrible noises, then after 2 minutes it's mute again..

So I am not sure what to do, or where to take it..

As for the tires, saw autostyle have great prices, back tires are 315/35 20" and front 275/40 20"

Think for the set it works out around 8K, where the garages charge me around 8K per tyre, so it's a big difference..

Any more suggestions

Will upload some pics tomorrow.

at that price that vehicle is a no brainer....can be a bit expensive to run...but the joy will outstrip the decrease in weight of your pocket:=):

Agreed.. Can anyone suggest a good audio specialist? And anyone selling front grills? Not in the mood to wait for it to come from USA.

It all depends what brand and quality of tyre you want to put on
There is a place in Rivonia that will do a full set of Conti's for 16K, which is better than 24K for a set of Bridgestone Turanza like I have on my X6 currently but will also need replacing very soon :(

There is also a guy by the name of Richard on Gumtree that does a full set of runflat Pirelli also for about 16K a set :=):

Here is a link to the guy Richard that sells the Pirelli's

Where are you based?

Speak to Rolf at promotech or Burgy from Project shift about the grilles

I noticed that 20" prices are not too bad in those sizes, if you shop around a bit. Of course, this is all relative...

There is a place in Plattekloof, Cape Town, called Combined Electronics, that will fix your radio for you. I think they once mentioned that they have a branch in Jo-burg. Phone them and enquire. They know their BMW radios/cd players inside out!

The entire vehicle audio system runs on what is called a MOST bus, which is basically a fibre optic ring.

You do have it as well that the ProLogic amp could have gone poof, but what I see often is that the voice control module goes for a ball of poo, it breaks the fibre ring, and you have no sound what so ever.

Does the I-drive and everything else work, climate control using the Idrive, information to the cluster ect.

If everything works FINE, but there is no sound its prob the Logic 7 amp.

Hey.

This model doesn't have the I drive, but the tv still works, computer stats work ect. Not able to get into the radio side, left buttons on the unit doesn't seem to work, and mode doesn't work as well, so was wondering if the amp is not extending those functions to the head unit, and because it's not working, the buttons aren't working as well.

I have tried methods I saw on another forums via google, that another guy had the same problem, and unplugging the amp/tuner and rep lugging it after 10min solved the problem, but in my case, the speakers start to make a horrible noise, then makes a sound like a truck horn, the goes back to silence after 2 - 3 minutes..

I saw on eBay the amp go for about $300, but first want to make sure it's the amp before ordering the new one..

Thanks

I imported the screen, was a real bitch replacing it, I will check to see if the same guy is still selling these screens. My screen just had some dead pixels.

The diagnostics cable was also from ebay, it's the PA soft bmw scanning cable, version 1.4
