Non rft's about R10k, i am running Azura pace better km's and no problem with road holding, just done my first service out of plan at bmw for R1498 at 114700km.
Draw the comments and history at the dealers and decide then, the history will tell the story
Excellent cars, a pitty all people not driving X5's got all the comments and issues

What comments an issues?

That tyres are expensive? Generally people who buy a high performance SUV like the 4.0d aren't going to fit budget tyres which the pace tyres fall into.

That the suspension can be problematic? The air suspension has been known to fail. Does your car have air suspension? Suspension components wear faster on such a heavier car. And generally are more durable to cope with the weight making them more expensive.

Nothing that has been said is untrue.

@OP the 4.0d is a great car and you will definitely love it.

IMO biggest risk item would be suspension related.

While you're investigating, check if there are options to replace the air suspension with standard suspension/parts if it does give up - heard of it being done on other brands (Merc specifically) that have problematic air suspensions.

There are allot of after market socks to replace the air suspension just Google it also a few kits available on ebay

R1498 That is very cheap, what did they service

Is this on a 40d ?

I did a quick search for Tyres and found these....

Yokohama V802 ADVAN ST
315/35 R20 R 4592.00
275/40 R20 R 3927.00
Total R 17 038.00 which is only R3000 more than my Fortuner tyres, what a bargain !

ADVAN ST (V802) The world’s fastest SUV tyre
The ADVAN ST is the fastest SUV tyre in the world. No other manufacturer offers an ultra high performance SUV line up that comprises purely of W and Y speed rated products. With speed capabilities up to 300 km/h the ADVAN S.T. is the highest rated SUV tyre available in today’s market. However, ADVAN ST is not just about speed, it’s also about precise handling, superior grip and outstanding wet performance. It’s everything you would expect from an ADVAN tyre.

W shaped tread design
The unique W-shaped tread is designed to quickly expel water for enhanced rubber-to-road contact and grip on wet surfaces. While the two wide circumferential grooves help evacuate water for excellent wet traction. The solid centre rib provides exceptional steering response and excellent straight line stability at high speeds.

The normal oil service, the tyres "budget tyres" give better km's, now on 35000 and still about 40% back and 55% front left, I tow a caravan quite often and stick to the speed limit, no use for Michelin etc. we cant do high performance driving with our roads anyway. I lost two tyres in a month due to potholes thats when I changed to the "budget tyres". I am actually impressed with them and the price, I can put two sets and still have change

Sure so the budget tyres suit your purpose.

The 4.0d is somewhat of a performance vehicle and anyone buying one is likely to excede the speed limit every now and then where the premium tyres will be needed.

On side note, touch wood, I haven't lost a tyre in 4 years.

My mom has a 2013 X5 3.0d M-Sport, also no air suspension. It has that lovely 8 speed auto gearbox too.

I'm sure all the X5's will drop value nicely now that the new one is out.

Crankshaft pulleys can go. Although it's more common on the 2 litre diesel. But they are solid engines.
