Hello all.

I am currently in the market for an X3 . Looking at either the 3.0D or 3.5i. My current daily drive is a 2010 135i ( absolute beauty ).

I have come across a 2011 3.0D with 60 000km. FSH . Motorplan expires in the next 2months. According to owner there are no comments .

I have requested the VIN etc to do some research on the car in the interim.

Is there anything specific I should be concerned about ? Asking price is R 360k.....haven't negotiated yet as ive only just seen the ad . There is the option of extending the motorplan to the 6th year... apparently about 13k according to the owner

Is there any possibility that a fellow forum member in Cape Town who may be able to view the vehicle for me . I am in Johannesburg.

All opinions and advice is highly appreciated. ( including the price )

Thanks

Thank you all for your replies.

I am leaning toward the diesel engine.

Have spotted a few other vehicles closer to JHB.

@NavZ....thank you. the car is in table view. I will contact bmw in the morning to get the low down on their records and make a decision thereafter.

@Ayjay X3...I did see the ad. Thanks. I prefer the 18" standard size rim all round. this will be a long distance cruiser so would like to optimize comfort. Your ex car seems very neat.....what did you upgrade to .?

Is there anyone out there owning a diesel out of MP ...? I'm natural concerned about after plan costs .

Thanks

Out of plan costs will be way cheaper on the diesel vs the 35i.
You are right about the wheel size, the smaller the wheel the more comfortable the ride. Had 18s on the x3, tried 17s and never went back, big difference in ride comfort.
Service your diesel every 10000km despite what motorplan says and the car will last forever.
My dad recently bought a 2015 x3 msport 3.0d, that car is a monster yet returns brilliant fuel consumption for its size.
I'm on my second x3 now, first was a 3.0i e83 which was horrible on fuel consumption, current one is a e83 Lci 3.0d and vastly superior in all areas, completely changed my outlook on diesel cars.

@Gizmo
Thanks for the response ..... my impression has been that petrols are relatively cheaper to maintain long term. Diesels , injectors, filters etc seem to be the cost drivers.....this is all from reading and hearsay.....i have owned 3 Freelander 2 s ......all diesels. All were under motorplan so cant say I have experience as regards maintaining them. Only 1 failure of the turbo hose which left me stranded on Van Reenens pass a few years back.

Hi Tiva, not sure if you can call an upgrade going from the SAV to a sedan. But wanted to try something different without losing too much versatility of the X3. So decided to get a 320i GT MSport.

try to get the extension included in the sale rather than reducing the price. Part of the sale must be the transfer of the motorplan, including the inspection.

Depending on your yearly mileage i would consider adding the max 2 years.

I have a 330d 2013 out of motorplan.

I have only had to do one service which I did early, i will be aiming to have the oil changes done every 8 tot 10k km.
So it was r3400 which included a brake fluid flush and an airfilter (r850).
Not to bad, i paid extra for aftermarket cover on my e90, never used it to 200000km so thought I would not get anything for the f30. So far so good

Normally aspirated petrol models are cheaper to maintain long term but at a cost of fuel usage vs a diesel model. Modern petrol models are turbocharged so they also run expensive high pressure fuel pumps, complex turbos and direct injection injectors and so on so now the only difference is a couple spark plugs and a massive difference in fuel economy. Due to the size and weight of the X3 you need as much low-end torque as you can get, diesel is perfect for this and produce way more torque than petrol models.

Hi all.

I have identified a potential vehicle.....X3 3.0D . Registered in Dec 2012. Motorplan until Dec 2017.

Mileage at 65000km. This is not a very well specced car. No xenons or sunroof. Has a towbar and Sat nav. 17 " wheels which is what I am after comfort wise. Leather interior.

I am hoping to view by the weekend.

What would be a fair price .? Asking 400 k .?

Thanks
