BMW X1 2.0 Diesel reliability

Hi all.

I'm new to fanatics. ??

I recently had my Subaru Forester written off by u numbskull who went through a red light.
I'd love to sit here and praise Subaru, but after all, this is a BMW site.

Anyway. Can't fault the Subaru on anything but the consumption. Absolutely rubbish. I have friends with 3 series diesel BMWs and they sag they're bullet proof.

Only problem, I lead a pretty active lifestyle, cycling etc. So dirt roads are frequented, and bicycles on the top or back are commonplace.

Looking at the x1 2.0d because it seems to tick all the boxes...

Looking at spending no more than 125 000

If I do find one with FSH etc, with roughly 160 000-180 000 kms, what is servicing going to be like?
What is the reliability of these cars like?
How much am I going to be paying?
What are parts like?
What can go wrong?
What must I look for in a second hand car?

Appreciate it guys.

Engines on post 2010 models are pretty bullet proof, make sure the vehicle has full service history and oil changes were done on time, at that mileage and if auto look to have the Gearbox serviced at ZF (they currently have a special). Damper pulley would also be on the list of maintenance if nit done.

Well Pre LCI X1s have the n47 engine...so timing chain guides are something to be aware off...I've read somewhere that post 2011/05 X1s have the revised guides, but still use the N47 engine.

LCI models get the N47T, but this will be out of OPs budget.

To add to the advise above, you would want to check the swirl flaps in high mile examples.

Otherwise, Good cars...have one in the family since 2012, 20d sdrive late 2011 model, currently has 150k kms now and has SW+DP...goes well  :fencelook:

Production of the E84 X1 started in Oct 2009...so pretty much all of them are post 2010  :tiptoe:

OP wants to check the vin for a build date >2011/05, but no guarantee that the revised timing chain guides will be present in this model (I never found any concrete evidence w.r.t my statement above about the revised guides)

and N47T is only available in LCI models, so late 2012 to 2015
